Handtools and chain saws outproduce hydraulic units

Fire Technology, 1981
Field tests assessed forest fireline construction capabilities of two power-assisted tooling systems—a chain saw system and a hydraulic power unit system. These were compared with the conventional handtool system as to fireline construction rate, cost, and other considerations.

Trip-Chaining Trends in the United States

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2005
This paper uses data from the 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey and the 2001 National Household Travel Survey to examine trip-chaining trends in the United States. The research focuses on trip chaining related to the work trip and contrasts travel characteristics of workers who trip chain with those who do not, including their distance ...

Polymers with Main-chain Mesogenic Units

1989
Low molecular weight, liquid crystalline compounds (LCs) have been known for 100 years,1 but liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) attained prominence only during the past 30 years. Synthetic and natural polymers with a degree of molecular order, established either in solution (lyotropic) or in the melt (thermotropic), intermediate between that of a solid

Spatial distribution of unit chains in glycogen

Carbohydrate Research, 1983
Abstract Cytophaga isoamylase is shown to catalyse an ordered and sequential exohydrolysis of the (1→6)-α linkages in glycogen, cleaving component (1→4)-α- d -glucosyl chains from the macromolecule in order of increasing depth of (1→6)-α linkage to the polymer.

Supply Chain Management on Clinical Units

2007
This chapter provides the reader with a discussion of how healthcare supplies can be efficiently managed in a hospital clinical unit. Effective unit supply management involves understanding patient profiles, defining recurrent nursing and multidisciplinary standards of care, facilitating ongoing collaboration between the supply chain stakeholders, and ...

Polyimides containing various heterocyclic main-chain units

Polymer Science U.S.S.R., 1981
Abstract The syntheses and some of the properties of aromatic polymides (PI) containing heterocyclic units (pyridine, oxadiazole, benzimidazole) in the diamine and acid dianhydride fragments are described. The properties have been compared with those of the known aromatic PI.

Average Unit Cell of the Fibonacci Chain

Acta Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography, 1998
An average unit cell for the Fibonacci chain has been constructed in physical space. The positions of atoms have been replaced by a statistical probability function of atomic displacements from the nearest point of the reference lattice. An analytical expression for diffraction peak intensities has been derived.

Polymers with Side-chain Mesogenic Units

1989
Liquid crystalline (LC) polymers are usually prepared by combining formanisotropic structural units (so-called mesogenic groups) and polymer chains (Figure 1). The mesogenic groups used for this purpose are rigid rod-like or disc-like units, which are known to favour LC phases in the case of low molar mass substances.

CHARMM36 United Atom Chain Model for Lipids and Surfactants

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2014
Molecular simulations of lipids and surfactants require accurate parameters to reproduce and predict experimental properties. Previously, a united atom (UA) chain model was developed for the CHARMM27/27r lipids (Hénin, J., et al. J. Phys. Chem. B.

Fully flexible unit cell simulation with recursive thermostat chains

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006
The recursive thermostat chained fully flexible cell molecular dynamic simulation (NσT ensemble) is performed. The ensemble is based on the metric tensor, whose components are used as extended variables. These variables are combined with Nosé-Poincaré recursive thermostat chains.
