Regularity and Variation in Islamic Chains of Transmission

open access: yes, 2023
The isnād is a list of narrators’ names which precedes an account about Islam’s prophet or his companions, and indicates its origin. The content and the form of this list have been studied in different fields. Islamicists have scrutinised the names contained in the isnād in order to assess the authenticity of the following account and uncover potential

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Natural Variation of Vitamin D and Neurofilament Light Chain in Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Background: High serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) have been found among patients with a favorable disease course in relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), indicating that this may limit clinical deterioration.

A comparison of latin hypercube sampling techniques for a supply chain network design problem [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Currently, supply chain network design becomes more complex. In designing a supply chain network to withstand changing events, it is necessary to consider the uncertainties and risks that cause network disruptions from unexpected events.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Faking the News: Intentional Guided Variation Reflects Cognitive Biases in Transmission Chains Without Recall

open access: yesCultural Science, 2018
Two potential forms of mutation in cultural evolution have been identified: ‘copying error’, where learners make random modifications to a behaviour and ‘guided variation’ where learners makes non-random modifications.

Magnetic-Field-Induced Topological Reorganization of a P-wave Superconductor

open access: yes, 2016
In this work we illustrate the detrimental impact of the Cooper pair's spin-structure on the thermodynamic and topological properties of a spin-triplet superconductor in an applied Zeeman field.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

System Dynamics Simulation to Test Operational Policies in the Milk-Cheese Supply Chain Case study: Piar Municipality, Bolivar State, Venezuela. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
With the purpose of detecting the impact that variations of demand cause in the milk-cheese supply chain, and determining how the operational policies of capacity, inventories or labor force can mitigate this impact, a system dynamics simulation model ...
