Hand-arm vibration from cutting different tree species using battery powered and petrol engine chainsaws

open access: yesCentral European Forestry Journal
The aim of the research was to determine the magnitude of the transmission rate of hand-arm vibration levels onto the operator from using a petrol chainsaw and battery-powered chainsaw, and to specify the extent to which HAV values in these chainsaw ...

Opium Cultivation Imperilling Endangered Species in Northern Laos

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
To avoid government eradication efforts, farmers in northeastern Laos shifted opium cultivation deep into a national park, causing a > 1000% increase in protected forest cleared for the crop between 2018 and 2022. This displacement directly threatened endangered species like white‐cheeked gibbons, elephants, and dholes by causing a rise in hunting ...

Does the munch affect the bunch? Using community science to explore insect herbivory and fruit production in an understory plant

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
We used iNaturalist records, a longitudinal field survey, and a simulated herbivory experiment to explore how insect herbivory factors are associated with Cornus canadensis fruit production. Naturally observed internal and external insect herbivory was mostly low intensity and did not have a strong relationship with fruit production.

Conservation conditions of chainsaws and electric chainsaws and safety of the farmers who operate these machines

open access: yesRevista Engenharia na Agricultura - Reveng, 2021
The increasing use of chainsaws in rural areas has demanded the health of rural producers who operate these machines. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the conservation conditions of chainsaws with a 2-stroke Otto Cycle engine and check if they meet NR12 Annex V, as well as confirm whether users meet NR31 in terms of training for use ...

Inquiry and Logical Form

open access: yesPhilosophical Perspectives, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Joint inquiry requires agents to exchange public content about some target domain, which in turn requires them to track which content a linguistic form contributes to a conversation. But, often, the inquiry delivers a necessary truth. For example, if we are inquiring whether a particular bird, Tweety, is a woodpecker, and discover that it is ...

Rate of chainsaw vibrations in laboratory conditions and level of chainsaw noise at different distances

open access: yesBaltic Forestry, 2023
The study is focused on the rate of vibrations and level of noise in the chainsaw model Stihl MS 362 which belongs in the group of the best-selling professional chainsaws in the world with a highly efficient anti-vibration system. Testing cuts to determine the rate of vibrations were made on the stems of two tree species: sessile oak (Quercus petraea ...
