Storage and eruption of near-liquidus rhyolite magma at Cordón Caulle, Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceThe last three eruptions at the Cordón Caulle volcanic complex, Chile, have been strikingly similar in that they have started with relatively short pre-eruptive warning and produced chemically homogeneous rhyolite to rhyodacite ...

Conduit Dynamics in Transitional Rhyolitic Activity Recorded by Tuffisite Vein Textures from the 2008–2009 Chaitén Eruption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The mechanisms of hazardous silicic eruptions are controlled by complex, poorly-understood conduit processes. Observations of recent Chilean rhyolite eruptions have revealed the importance of hybrid activity, involving simultaneous explosive and effusive

Volcanic ash leaching as a means of tracing the environmental impact of the 2011 Grímsvötn eruption, Iceland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Grímsvötn volcanic eruption, from 21 to 28 May, 2011, was the largest eruption of the Grímsvötn Volcanic System since 1873, with a Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of magnitude 4. The main geochemical features of the potential environmental impact of

The Southernmost Known Population of the Monito Del Monte, Dromiciops gliroides

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
A range extension for a relict south American marsupial. ABSTRACT The monito del monte (genus Dromiciops) is a small arboreal marsupial endemic to the temperate rainforests of southern South America, and the sole extant representative of the order Microbiotheria. This lineage, considered a sister group of Australian marsupials, is of great evolutionary,

Stratospheric Aerosol Plumes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 23, 16 December 2025.
Abstract Aerosol eruption plumes in the tropical lower stratosphere appear to rise whereas extra‐tropical plumes do not. We show that this occurs because the Brewer‐Dobson transport circulation is upward in the tropics, and the circulation lifts the tropical aerosol plumes.

Numerically Efficient Model for the Nucleation, Growth, and Coalescence of Bubbles in Magma

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract We present a numerical model to describe the nucleation, growth, and coalescence of bubbles in a decompressed magma. The new model enables us to calculate the bubble size distribution (BSD) at a low computational cost by taking the bubble mass as a variable.
