Taxonomic studies on chalcid wasps (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Chalcididae) of Goa, India, with an illustrated key to genera and species

This study on the chalcidid wasps (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) reports 26 species belonging to 12 genera and four subfamilies from the state of Goa, India. Of these, 20 species and seven genera are newly recorded from Goa.

The Chalcididae represent a large group of parasitic Hymenoptera which parasitise pupal or larval stages of various insects including several pests. Their phylogeny is not so far clearly known, but a Eurytomid—Torymid line of accent could be postulated.

The South American species of Chalcis Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae)

Chalcis Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) currently includes over 50 described species, most of them from temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Prior to the present study, only Chalcis pilicauda (Cameron) had been recorded from South America.
