A chalcone synthase/stilbene synthase DNA probe for conifers

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1996
A probe for chalcone synthase (CHS) was generated by PCR using chalcone synthase conserved sequences. The cloned PCR product has high similarity to both chalcone synthase and stilbene synthase sequences. The probe was used to examine the organization of chalcone synthase and stilbene synthase genes in Abies procera, Pinus lambertiana, P.

Expression of chalcone synthase and chalcone isomerase proteins in Arabidopsis seedlings.

Plant molecular biology, 1997
Antibodies have been developed against the first two enzymes of flavonoid biosynthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana. Chalcone synthase (CHS) and chalcone isomerase (CHI) were overexpressed and purified from Escherichia coli as fusion proteins with glutathione S-transferase from Schistosoma japonicum.

Chalcone synthase in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha

Phytochemistry, 1995
Chalcone synthase (CHS) activity was measured in gametophytic tissue of Marchantia polymorpha. The main product of the enzyme reaction was identified as naringenin which results from cyclization of the chalcone. Cross-reactivity under native and denaturing conditions was obtained using antibodies raised against CHS from three different higher plants ...

An allelic series for the chalcone synthase locus in Arabidopsis

Gene, 2000
Five new alleles of the Arabidopsis chalcone synthase (CHS) locus, tt4, have been characterized at the gene, protein, and end product levels as a genetic approach to understanding structure-function relationships in a key enzyme of plant secondary metabolism.

Improved preparation and assay of chalcone synthase

Phytochemistry, 1985
Abstract Preparation and assay of chalcone synthase in presence of sodium ascorbate and exclusion of oxygen during some steps gives improved yield and purity of 2 S -naringenin.

Chalcone synthases (CHSs): the symbolic type III polyketide synthases

Planta, 2019
Present review provides a thorough insight on some significant aspects of CHSs over a period of about past three decades with a better outlook for future studies toward comprehending the structural and mechanistic intricacy of this symbolic enzyme. Polyketide synthases (PKSs) form a large family of iteratively acting multifunctional proteins that are ...

[Cloning and characterization of chalcone synthase and chalcone isomerase genes in Arisaema heterophyllum].

Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2019
Chalcone synthase( CHS) and chalcone isomerase( CHI) are key enzymes in the biosynthesis pathway of flavonoids. In this study, unigenes for CHS and CHI were screened from the transcriptome database of Arisaema heterophyllum. The open reading frame( ORFs) of chalcone synthase( Ah CHS) and chalcone isomerase( Ah CHI) were cloned from the plant by RT-PCR ...

Characterization of Antisense Chalcone Synthase Transgenic Microcuttings

1996
Walnut somatic embryos were transformed with a vector containing the neomycin phosphotransferase (nptII), b-glucuronidase (uidA) and an antisense chalcone synthase (chs) genes. Thirteen transgenic lines were obtained. They were characterized at the molecular, biochemical, and physiological levels, and compared to control lines (the initial line and a ...

Structure, Function, and Regulation of the Chalcone Synthase

1993
Publisher Summary This chapter presents an overview of the activity, function, and control of chalcone synthase (CHS) enzyme. It describes the reaction it catalyzes, the secondary metabolic products of the pathways in which it is involved, and the functions of these products.

Structure of the chalcone synthase gene of Antirrhinum majus

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1986
Genomic and cDNA clones of the chalcone synthase gene (chs) of Antirrhinum majus have been isolated and sequenced. By sequence comparison the structure of the gene was deduced. The coding region of the chs gene is interupted by two intervening sequences of 721 bp and 211 bp. The gene codes for a protein with a MW of 42,665 daltons.
