Propagation properties of nonparaxial spatial solitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present an analysis and simulation of the non-paraxial nonlinear Schroedinger equation. Exact general relations describing energy flow conservation and transformation invariance are reported, and then explained on physical grounds.

Period poverty, housing and food insecurity, and mental health among college students in Hawaiʻi

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To assess the prevalence and associations between period poverty and depressive symptoms among college students with food and/or housing insecurity in the University of Hawaiʻi system. Period poverty is an important public health concern within the USA and has been linked with poor mental health among university students in prior ...

Black and gray Helmholtz Kerr soliton refraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
efraction of black and gray solitons at boundaries separating different defocusing Kerr media is analyzed within a Helmholtz framework. A universal nonlinear Snell’s law is derived that describes gray soliton refraction, in addition to capturing the ...

Macroscopic, Histological and Ultrastructural Features of the Tongue of the Anatolian Wild Boar (Sus scrofa libycus)

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
Integrated macroscopic, histological, and ultrastructural analyses revealed five distinct lingual papillae types (filiform, fungiform, conical, foliate, and vallate) in the Anatolian wild boar (Sus scrofa libycus). Mechanical papillae showed marked structural specialization, while gustatory papillae exhibited region‐specific distribution of taste buds.

Helmholtz-Manakov solitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A novel spatial soliton-bearing wave equation is introduced, the Helmholtz-Manakov (H-M) equation, for describing the evolution of broad multi-component self-trapped beams in Kerr-type media. By omitting the slowly-varying envelope approximation, the H-M

Exact analytical helmholtz bright and dark solitons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper, exact analytical Helmholtz bright and dark soliton solutions for a Kerr nonlinearity are presented. Numerical simulations verify that these solutions are both robust and act as attractors in nonlinear beam dynamics.

In silico prediction and structural characterization of multifunctional bioactive peptides released from olive proteins

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Olive (Olea europaea L.) byproducts, such as seeds and leaves, are abundant agro‐industrial residues and represent underexplored protein sources with potential health relevance. However, the repertoire of bioactive peptides that may be released from olive proteins during gastrointestinal digestion remains poorly characterized.
