Chromosome-Scale Assembly and Characterization of the Albino Northern Snakehead, Channa argus var. (Teleostei: Channidae) Genome

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Northern snakehead, Channa argus (C. argus), is an important economic and ecological fish species. The wild population of the species was sharply declined in the last decade.

Emersion and Terrestrial Locomotion of the Northern Snakehead (Channa argus) on Multiple Substrates. [PDF]

open access: yesIntegr Org Biol, 2019
SynopsisMost fishes known for terrestrial locomotion are small and/or elongate. Northern snakeheads (Channa argus) are large, air-breathing piscivores anecdotally known for terrestrial behaviors. Our goals were to determine their environmental motivations for emersion, describe their terrestrial kinematics for fish 3.0–70.0 cm and compare kinematics ...

Effects of dietary quercetin on growth, antioxidant capacity, immune response and immune-related gene expression in snakehead fish, Channa argus

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2022
The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of quercetin-supplemented in diet on growth, antioxidant capacity and immune response and immune-related gene expression of Channa argus (C. argus) (initial weight, 24.50 ± 0.24 g).

Purification and Characterization of Lactate Dehydrogenase Isozymes in Channa argus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Life Science, 2010
The lactate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.27, LDH) isozymes in tissues from Channa argus were purified and characterized by biochemical, immunochemical and kinetic methods. The activity of LDH in skeletal muscle was the highest at 380.4 units and those in heart, eye and brain tissues were 13.4, 3,5 and 5.4 units, respectively.

Size and concentration effects of microplastics on digestion and immunity of hybrid snakehead in developmental stages

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2022
Microplastics pollution has gained much attention for its harmful impact on aquatic organisms. This study aimed to evaluate the size-effects and concentration-effects of microplastics on the physiology of hybrid snakehead (Channa maculate × Channa argus).

Molecular cloning and characterization of interferon regulatory factor 1 (IRF-1), IRF-2 and IRF-5 in the chondrostean paddlefish Polyodon spathula and their phylogenetic importance in the Osteichthyes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The interferon regulatory factor (IRF) with its 10 members is a very important gene family related to innate immunity. Currently, most fish IRFs reported are from bony fish (teleosts).

Ethoxyquin attenuate oxidant stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis in liver of Channa argus fed with high-fat dietary

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2021
Lipid is an important nutrient in fish dietary, while fatty liver disease induced by feeding high-fat dietary (HFD) is usual disease in aquaculture industry and also make more economic loss.

Habitat segregation between two congeneric and introduced goby species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Spatial segregation is one of the most important mechanisms that facilitates coexistence among competing species. Large populations of two introduced and congeneric goby species (Rhinogobius giurinus and Rhinogobius cliffordpopei) now co-occur in Lake ...

Transcriptome analysis in the spleen of Northern Snakehead (Channa argus) challenged with Nocardia seriolae

open access: yesGenomics, 2022
Northern snakehead (Channa argus) is an indigenous fish species and is one of popularly cultured snakeheads in China and other Asian countries. Unfortunately, Nocardia seriolae infections have caused considerable losses in the snakehead aquaculture industry. However, the infectivity and the immune response induced by N.

Status and historical changes in the fish community in Erhai Lake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Erhai Lake is the second largest freshwater lake on the Yunnan Plateau, Southwest China. In recent decades, a number of exotic fish species have been introduced into the lake and the fish community has changed considerably. We evaluated the status of the
