Joint Source-Channel Coding Using Variable-Length Codes

Problems of Information Transmission, 2001
The paper presents a decoding algorithm for joint source-channel coding when variable-length codes are used for information transmission over a discrete memoryless channel. The asymptotic lower bound on the exponent of the decoding error probability for variable-length codes has been established.

Coding for noisy channels

1990
Reliable communication over a noisy channel is the focus of this chapter. The chapter begins with a development of the classic fundamental results of Feinstein regarding reliable communication of block codes and the relation of operational channel capacity to Shannon capacity for discrete channels. A technique of Dobrushin is used to extend Feinstein’s

Channel coding

2016
This book deals with the subject of channel coding and forward error correction techniques, providing a complete, but introductory, overview on modern coding/decoding techniques, as well as on the theoretical bases on which they lay. It is meant for master degree students with a background in both probability and communication techniques.

Channel Capacity and Channel Coding

2013
Chapter 5 continues the discussion of Shannon’s information theory as regards channel capacity and channel coding. Simple channel models are introduced and their capacity is computed. It is shown that channel coding needs redundancy and the fundamental theorem of channel coding is stated.

Joint Channel Coding

2010
Multichannel audio signals or programs, including the most widely used stereo and 5.1 surround sounds, are considered as consisting of discrete channels. Since a multichannel signal is intended for reproduction of coherent sound field, there is strong correlation between its discrete channels.

Channel Coding Basics

2013
This chapter gives a short overview of the basic principle of linear block codes and possible decoding methods. As this treatise only deals with a subset of existing channel codes, only a short primer with small examples are given.
