Evolutionary optimization of chaos control - a new approach

open access: yes, 2011
This research deals with optimization of the control of chaos by means of evolutionary algorithms. The main aim of this work is to show that evolutionary algorithms are capable of the optimization of chaos control and to show a new approach of solving ...

Detection of Signals in Chaos [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A new method for the detection of signals in "noise", which is based on the premise that the "noise" is chaotic with at least one positive Lyapunov exponent, is presented.

Bifurcations and chaos in electrostatic vibration energy harvesters

open access: yes, 2012
Paper presented at the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems 2012 (ISCAS 2012), Seoul, Korea, 20-23 May 2012In this paper, we present an analysis of an electrostatic vibration harvester operating in the constant-charge mode.

Parental involvement and engagement during COVID‐19 lockdowns: School staff and parents' reflections about children's learning at home

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Valuing parental engagement, as part of home–school collaboration, can benefit children's learning. This article focuses on parents and school‐based staff's (N = 120) experiences of children's learning occurring at home during the COVID‐19 lockdowns (2020–2021), both school‐mandated and other learning activities.

Frequency Domain Processing Based Chaos Communication for Cognitive Radio

open access: yes, 2010
Chaotic systems are deterministic non-linear dynamical systems which have intrinsic properties such as: irregularity, aperiodicity, and are impossible to predict over long periods of time.

Framing National Education in Hong Kong: A frame analysis of power dynamics in stakeholders' competing narratives

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines how national education in Hong Kong functions as a contested arena in which state and non‐state actors struggle over the meaning of citizenship, identity and schooling. Using inductive frame analysis of 319 news articles (2020–2025) from five Chinese‐ and English‐language outlets, it identifies diagnostic, prognostic and ...

Misalignment and Rub-Impact Coupling Dynamics of Power Turbine Rotor with Offset Disk

open access: yesApplied Sciences
When the dual rotor system of the aircraft engine is operating, the mass eccentricity of the power turbine rotor and the misalignment of the shaft coupling or the bearing will cause too large vibration of the rotor; this vibration leads to the rub-impact

Information Gain, Operator Spreading, and Sensitivity to Perturbations as Quantifiers of Chaos in Quantum Systems

open access: yes
We adopt a continuous weak measurement tomography protocol to explore the signatures of chaos in the quantum system(s). We generate the measurement record as a series of expectation values of an observable evolving under the desired dynamics, which can show a transition from integrability to chaos.

Migrant success in UK Education: Are there lessons for government social mobility policy?

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The school achievement and career aspirations of 23 sixth form students at a multi‐cultural urban academy in the UK are explored through interviews. The sample includes 16 s‐generation migrants, 6 UK‐born students with migrant parents and 1 UK‐born student, selected to represent a cohort of over 300 post‐16 learners.

Nonlinear dynamics and chaos simulation system analysis for improved design

open access: yes, 1999
Small errors proved catastrophic. Our purpose to remark that a very small cause which escapes our notice determined a considerable effect that we cannot fail to see, and then we say that the effect is due to chance.
