A Novel Hybrid Elementary Cellular Automata and Its Application in a Stream Cipher

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The elementary cellular automata (ECAs) under the chaotic rule possess long periodicity and are widely used in pseudo-random number generators. However, their period is limited, related to the rule and the number of cells.

Statistics of Chaotic Resonances in an Optical Microcavity

open access: yes, 2016
Distributions of eigenmodes are widely concerned in both bounded and open systems. In the realm of chaos, counting resonances can characterize the underlying dynamics (regular vs.

The chaotic obliquity of the planets

open access: yesNature, 1993
Numerical study of the global stability of the spin-axis orientation (obliquity) of the planets against secular orbital perturbations shows that all of the terrestrial planets could have experienced large, chaotic variations in obliquity at some time in the past. The obliquity of Mars is still in a large chaotic region, ranging from 0° to 60°.

Impact of System‐Model Mismatch in Fourier Ptychographic Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This study investigates the robustness of Fourier ptychography microscope (FPM) reconstruction algorithms across various scenarios, each representing challenges encountered in practical FPM experiments, and deduces the extent to which FPM can provide diffraction‐limited resolution under the influence of various sources of error.

Fidelity and level correlations in the transition from regularity to chaos

open access: yes, 2012
Mean fidelity amplitude and parametric energy--energy correlations are calculated exactly for a regular system, which is subject to a chaotic random perturbation.

PCSK9 Loss‐of‐Function Disrupts Cellular Microfilament Network via LIN28A/HES5/JMY Axis in Neural Tube Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PCSK9 acts as a molecular chaperone promoting LIN28A lysosomal degradation. LIN28A elevates transcription factor HES5, increasing JMY expression. PCSK9 loss causes neural tube defects (NTDs) by disrupting the LIN28A/HES5/JMY axis, and high JMY disorganizes the neural progenitor cell microfilament network, leading to incomplete neural tube structure in ...

Gravitational Wave Signals from Chaotic System: A Point Mass with A Disk

open access: yes, 2007
We study gravitational waves from a particle moving around a system of a point mass with a disk in Newtonian gravitational theory. A particle motion in this system can be chaotic when the gravitational contribution from a surface density of a disk is ...

Movement Mechanisms Harness Lévy Flight for Energy‐Efficient Wastewater Treatment in Microalgae–Bacteria Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Here, our novel model that integrates metabolism with motility dynamics reveals that microalgae shift bacterial movement toward Lévy flight patterns, enhancing encounter rates and self‐aggregation. This microecological manipulation reduces energy costs, strengthens functions such as pollutant removal and system stability.

Decoherence induced by a chaotic environment: A quantum walker with a complex coin

open access: yes, 2005
We study the differences between the process of decoherence induced by chaotic and regular environments. For this we analyze a family of simple models wich contain both regular and chaotic environments.

Hyperelastic Starch Hydrogel Configures Edible and Biodegradable All‐Components for Soft Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hyperelastic starch hydrogel is tailored via a phase separation strategy of solvent‐antisolvent co‐modulation. The mechanical performance of starch hydrogel is widely tuned with maximum strains: 194.4–361.4%; maximum tensile stresses: 34–192 kPa; and Young's moduli: 36.0–205.8 kPa. Notably, the hydrogel achieves complete soil degradation within 24 days
