Tumors as chaotic attractors

Mol. BioSyst., 2014
Malignant tumor growth, progression and evolution share several of the features associated with strange attractors, a special type of dynamical behavior of non-linear systems. In this framework, the genetic instability of tumor cells represents a local-scale driving force for instability that lets the tumor evolve with time, while selective pressures ...

YET ANOTHER CHAOTIC ATTRACTOR

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 1999
This Letter reports the finding of a new chaotic at tractor in a simple three-dimensional autonomous system, which resembles some familiar features from both the Lorenz and Rossler at tractors.

A “superfat” chaotic attractor

Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, 1993
A ``superfat'' attractor is presented. The example of attractor showing the Kaplan-Yorke phenomenon, i.e. an attractor for which the difference between the fractal and topological dimensions is greater than two, is studied in this paper. The investigation is on the equation, the topological and the fractal dimension of the attractor.

Attractor Selection in Chaotic Dynamics

Physical Review Letters, 2005
For different settings of a control parameter, a chaotic system can go from a region with two separate stable attractors (generalized bistability) to a crisis where a chaotic attractor expands, colliding with an unstable orbit. In the bistable regime jumps between independent attractors are mediated by external perturbations; above the crisis, the ...

Chaotic attractors of atmospheric models

Russian Journal of Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Modelling, 2002
Summary: In this paper we consider the theoretical results obtained for atmospheric models with chaotic dynamics. To define the notion of `climate' for the real climate system we introduce the concept of `ideal climate model'. Starting from this concept we formulate problems that should be studied for the specific climate (or atmospheric) model under ...

Laser Chaotic Attractors in Crisis

Physical Review Letters, 1986
Different crises, i.e., abrupt qualitative changes in the properties of attractors, have been observed in a C${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ laser with internal modulation. They are shown to be related to crossing between a stable or unstable periodic cycle and the strange attractor resulting from the period-doubling cascade observed at low modulation levels ...

A NEW CHAOTIC ATTRACTOR COINED

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002
This letter reports the finding of a new chaotic attractor in a simple three-dimensional autonomous system, which connects the Lorenz attractor and Chen's attractor and represents the transition from one to the other.

Compound Chaotic Systems with Composite Attractors

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2022
Chaotic systems with either a self-excited attractor or a hidden attractor are prevalent in the research paradigm. But a composite attractor of a chaotic system that exhibits both self-excited attractors and hidden attractors with time is rare. Compounding of a chaotic system is devised to enhance the richness of the system as it exhibits different ...

Chaotic attractors with separated scrolls

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2015
This paper proposes a new behavior of chaotic attractors with separated scrolls while combining Julia's process with Chua's attractor and Lorenz's attractor. The main motivation of this work is the ability to generate a set of separated scrolls with different behaviors, which in turn allows us to choose one or many scrolls combined with modulation ...

Chaotic Attractors in Crisis

Physical Review Letters, 1982
The occurrence of sudden qualitative changes of chaotic (or "turbulent") dynamics is discussed and illustrated within the context of the one-dimensional quadratic map. For this case, the chaotic region can suddenly widen or disappear, and the cause and properties of these phenomena are investigated.
