The karyotypes and evolution of ZZ/ZW sex chromosomes in the genus Characidium (Characiformes, Crenuchidae). [PDF]

open access: yesComp Cytogenet, 2018
Available data on cytotaxonomy of the genus Characidium Reinhardt, 1867, which contains the greatest number of species in the Characidiinae (Crenuchidae), with 64 species widely distributed throughout the Neotropical region, were summarized and reviewed.

Aspectos da reprodução no gênero Characidium Reinhardt, 1867 (Crenuchidae, Characidiinae), na microbacia do Ribeirão Grande, serra da Mantiqueira, sudeste do Brasil - DOI: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v28i4.170

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2006
Neste trabalho são descritos aspectos da biologia da reprodução em Characidium lauroi e C. alipioi. A maturação das gônadas é dividida em quatro estádios e são descritos no ciclo anual.

First Cytogenetical Studies in Characidium Species (Pisces: Characiformes, Characidiinae). [PDF]

open access: yesCYTOLOGIA, 1994
Fishes of the subfamily Characidiinae are almost unknown from the cytogenetic viewpoint. The mitotic chromosomes of Characidium cf lagosantensis, Characidium sp, Characidium pterostictum, and Characidium cf zebra, are here first described. With 2n=50, the major karyotype structure of all species was very homogeneous.

A new species of Characidium (Characiformes: Crenuchidae) from the rio Doce basin, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2022
A new species of Characidium is described from the tributaries of the upper and middle rio Doce basin, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from most congeners, except C. cricarense, C. hasemani, C. helmeri, C. kalunga, C. pterostictum,

A new miniature species of Odontocharacidium (Characiformes: Crenuchidae) from the Río Orinoco basin, Venezuela [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2020
A new species of Odontocharacidium is described from the upper Río Orinoco basin, in Venezuela. The new species is distinguished from its only congener, Odontocharacidium aphanes, by the presence of: the antorbital, the parietal branch of the ...

Occurence of Characidium xavante (Characiformes: Crenuchidae) in the Tapajós River basin and comments about the conservation status of the species

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2021
Characidium xavante was described from two tributaries of the Culuene River drainage, in the upper Xingu River basin. New samplings recorded the species for streams from the Kaaiapó River drainage (Teles Pires River drainage, upper Tapajós River basin ...

Chromosomal divergence and maintenance of sympatric Characidium fish species (Crenuchidae, Characidiinae) [PDF]

open access: yesHereditas, 2003
Cytogenetic studies were performed in two syntopic species of Characidium, C. lauroi and Characidium sp. cf. C. alipioi, from Ribeirão Grande, Paraíba do Sul river basin. Both species have diploid number 2n=50 chromosomes, but differ in chromosome shape, C-banding pattern and location of nucleolar organizing regions. In Characidium sp. cf. C. alipioi a

Integrative study of Characidium borellii (Characiformes: Crenuchidae): phylogenetic relationships and geographic distribution [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
The genus Characidium comprises a diverse group of small Neotropical freshwater fishes. Among the 89 valid species, eight occur in Argentina. Characidium borellii, originally described based on material from the río Salí basin, show morphological ...
