Vehicle license plate character segmentation

International Journal of Automation and Computing, 2008
Vehicle license plate (VLP) character segmentation is an important part of the vehicle license plate recognition system (VLPRS). This paper proposes a least square method (LSM) to treat horizontal tilt and vertical tilt in VLP images. Auxiliary lines are added into the image (or the tilt-corrected image) to make the separated parts of each Chinese ...

Automatic Handwritten Character Segmentation for Paleographical Character Shape Analysis

2016 12th IAPR Workshop on Document Analysis Systems (DAS), 2016
Written texts are both abstract and physical objects: ideas, signs and shapes, whose meanings, graphical systems and social connotations evolve through time. To study this dual nature of texts, paleographers need to analyse large scale corpora at the finest granularity, such as character shape.

New Segmentation Algorithm for Offline Handwritten Connected Character Segmentation

First International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems, 2006
An approach for the Segmentation of offline handwritten connected two-digit strings is presented in this paper. Very often even in a printed text, adjacent characters tend to touch or connect. This makes it a problem in performing proper character isolation, hence difficult in segmenting the digit strings in order to recognize its individual characters.

A hybrid approach to character segmentation of gurmukhi script characters

32nd Applied Imagery Pattern Recognition Workshop, 2003. Proceedings., 2004
A new approach to segmentation of machine printed Gurmukhi text has been suggested. This approach can easily be extended to other Indian language scripts such as Devnagri and Bangla. Most of the characters in these scripts have horizontal lines at the top called headlines.

Touching character segmentation of Devanagari script

Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Computing Communication and Networking Technologies, 2016
Segmentation of characters is one of the major step in OCR system. Devanagari script is a two dimensional form of symbol. It is very inconvenient to treat each form of character as a separate symbol because such combinations are very large in number. Segmentation is a process which separates words into characters.

Segmenting Characters from Malayalam Handwritten Documents

2019 1st International Conference on Innovations in Information and Communication Technology (ICIICT), 2019
Construction of an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) model for handwritten documents poses many challenges, the most prominent of them being dataset collection, character segmentation and classification. This paper focuses on the segmentation part, and presents a novel approach to segment individual characters from Malayalam handwritten documents. It

Classification-Based Character Segmentation of Image

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
In traditional way, the segmentation of image is conducted by simple technology of image processing, which cannot be operated automatically. In this paper, we present a kind of classification method to find the boundary area to segment character image. Referring to sample points and sample areas, the essential segmentation information is extracted.

New Segmentation Algorithm for Individual Offline Handwritten Character Segmentation

2005
Handwritten character recognition has been an intensive research for last decade. A handwritten character recognition fuzzy system with an automatically generated rule base possesses the features of flexibility, efficiency and online adaptability. A major requirement of such a fuzzy system for either online or offline handwritten character recognition ...

CHARACTER SEGMENTATION USING CONVEX-HULL TECHNIQUES

International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 1999
A novel character segmentation method for printed documents is proposed in this paper. It is very difficult to process touching, overlapping and broken characters simultaneously. The strategy of our method is to adjust the binarization parameters such that broken characters can be avoided.

Handwritten character segmentation for Kannada scripts

2012 World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies, 2012
Character segmentation has become a crucial task for character recognition in many OCR systems. It is an important step because incorrectly segmented characters are unlikely to be recognized correctly. For segmenting a cursive scripts leads more challenging because of presence of more touching characters.
