Character-based ThaiWord Segmentation with Multiple Attentions

open access: yesProceedings of the Conference Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing - Deep Learning for Natural Language Processing Methods and Applications, 2021
Character-based word-segmentation models have been extensively applied to agglutinative languages, including Thai, due to their high performance. These models estimate word boundaries from a character sequence. However, a character unit in sequences has no essential meaning, compared with word, subword, and character cluster units.

Chinese Character Components Segmentation Method Based on Faster RCNN

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
To solve the component segmentation problem caused by the sticking and overlapping of parts in incoherent handwritten calligraphy characters, we propose a Chinese character part segmentation method based on Faster RCNN. The method utilizes the advantages

Multi-object segmentation using coupled nonparametric shape and relative pose priors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present a new method for multi-object segmentation in a maximum a posteriori estimation framework. Our method is motivated by the observation that neighboring or coupling objects in images generate configurations and co-dependencies which could ...

An evolutionary harmony search algorithm with dominant point detection for recognition-based segmentation of online Arabic text recognition

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2014
This paper highlights a novel strategy for online Arabic text recognition using a hybrid Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Harmony Search algorithm (HS). The strategy is divided into two phases: text segmentation using dominant point detection, and recognition ...

Two-Step CNN Framework for Text Line Recognition in Camera-Captured Images

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In this paper, we introduce an “on the device” text line recognition framework that is designed for mobile or embedded systems. We consider per-character segmentation as a language-independent problem and individual character recognition as
