Preparation and characterisation of polymer blends reinforced with nano-ZnO and study the thermal and electrical properties for industrial applications

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science
Binary blends of unsaturated polyester (70%) and nitrile rubber (NR) (30%) and their composites are prepared. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) were used as a filler in the hand-lay method. ZnONP weight ratios ranged from 0 to 3 wt.%.

Manufacture of ceramics with high mechanical properties from red mud and granite waste

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2019
Red mud (bauxite residue) is an alkaline suspension that is the by-product of alumina production via the Bayer process. Its elevated annual production and the global inventory of red mud determine its valorisation.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Performance at high temperature of alkali-activated slag pastes produced with silica fume and rice husk ash based activators

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2015
This study assessed the mechanical properties, and structural changes induced by high temperature exposure, of alkali-silicate activated slag cements produced with sodium silicates derived from silica fume (SF) and rice husk ash (RHA).

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Characterisation of fly ashes from 4th Thermal Power Station of Ulaanbaatar city and its applicability for a zeolite synthesis

open access: yesMongolian Journal of Chemistry, 2014
Fly ash from 4th thermal power station of Ulaanbaatar city have been characterised by x-ray fluorescence (XRF), x-ray diffractometry (XRD), particle size analyzer, specific surface area measurement (BET) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Impact of the Temperature in the Evaluation of Battery Performances During Long-Term Cycling—Characterisation and Modelling

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
This paper presents the results regarding the thermal characterisation and modelling of high energy lithium-ion battery cells at both room (25 °C) and cycling (35 °C) temperatures. In this work two types of Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries

Hitting Times and Probabilities for Imprecise Markov Chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the problem of characterising expected hitting times and hitting probabilities for imprecise Markov chains. To this end, we consider three distinct ways in which imprecise Markov chains have been defined in the literature: as sets of ...
