Characteristic frequency functions and characteristic gain functions
International Journal of Control, 1977Abstract In the transform analysis of linear systems the two classical approaches use complex functions to study gain as a function of frequency (the Nyquist—Bode approach)and to study frequency as a function of gain (the Evans root locus approach)The central feature of any transform approach to the analysis of linear multivariable systems is the use ...

The characteristic function (CF, defined below) is very useful in many areas of mathematics, not only probability and statistics. Usually, this term is used for what we have called the indicator function and our CF is called a bilateral Fourier transform; needless to say, there is also variation in notation. We begin this lesson with some remarks about

Abstract Characteristic Function
Complex Analysis and Operator Theory, 2010This paper is concerned with (a very large class of) \(n\)-tuples of commuting operators on a Hilbert space which have an analytic model consisting of multiplication operators on a domain in \(\mathbb{C}^n\), as developed in [\textit{C.-G. Ambrozie}, \textit{M. Engliš} and \textit{V. Müller}, J. Oper. Theory 47, No. 2, 287--302 (2002; Zbl 1019.47015)].

The monography presents the fundamentals of the theory of construction new-generation modems. Modems are built on the principles of statistical communication theory, based on the use of a random signal (chaos) as a carrier of information. In such a signal, a characteristic function is modulated, which is a fundamental characteristic of a random process.

Abstract This chapter begins with a look at convolutions and the distribution of sums of random variables. It briefly surveys complex number theory before defining the characteristic function and studying its properties, with a range of examples. The concept of infinite divisibility is introduced.
