Characteristic of Writing Language in WAKAKANBUN:As an example of Archaic Records in the Heian Period [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper clarifies the characteristics of the writing language in WAKAKANBUN. The research material is archaic records 'Gonijo-Moromichi-Ki' in the Heian period. These records have two different texts, 'Honki' and 'Bekki'. The results of the comparison

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Psychophysical Characteristics of the Premenstrual Period

open access: yesCollegium antropologicum, 2010
Aim of this study was to investigate psychophysical characteristics of the premenstrual period in regard to the period following menstruation. Psychophysical characteristics are defined as assessments of the physical state (fatigue, breast tenderness, bloating and lack of sleep), emotional sense (happiness, anger, sadness, irritability, anxiety and ...

The Conditional CAPM does not Explain Asset-Pricing Anamolies [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent studies suggest that the conditional CAPM might hold, period-by-period, and that time-varying betas can explain the failures of the simple, unconditional CAPM.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Lipopolysaccharide uptake is augmented in lipopolysaccharide‐tolerant mouse macrophage‐like cells via increased CD14 expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ADOLESCENT PERIOD

open access: yes
One of the serious changes that occur in adolescents is the changes in their emotional sphere. The volatility of emotions and feelings makes them difficult to control and leads to the weakening of the adolescent's self-reflection and self-control. The constant and intense manifestation of feelings is also characteristic of the adolescent age period. In

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Nanoscale investigations of surface phenomena in the water teatment industry using the atomic force microscope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Understanding the interaction between surfaces at the intermolecular level in ambient conditions is not only a fundamental science, but is of increasing value to water treatment systems.
