Polymer Materials Science: Novel Synthesis and Characterization of Supermolecular Structures [PDF]
The two feature articles in this issue present numerous contrasts, but both reflect the vitality of research in polymer science today. David Tirrell and co-authors paint a picture of how the techniques of molecular biology may be applied to the synthesis of novel “proteinlike” polymers with control over molecular weight, composition, and ...

Advanced synchrotron characterization techniques for fusion materials science
Abstract Characterization methods capable of providing critical information across multiple structural length scales are essential in materials exposed to the extreme environments such as anticipated fusion power systems. Complementary techniques capable of uncovering the complicated microstructural irradiation-induced evolution are also important to

The materials science of skin: Analysis, characterization, and modeling
Abstract Skin is the outermost layer of the body and acts as a primary protective barrier against external agents such as heat, light, infection, and injury. Additionally, skin regulates the temperature of the body and the exchange of fluids. Skin contains a vast network of nerves, glands, and vessels that enable sensing of heat, touch, pressure and ...

A new method of thermo-mechanical processing has been designed by introducing pre-aging before general cold rolling for an Al-Zn-Mg alloy. This process results in an increase of 200 MPa in yield strength compared to that of the peak-aged samples.
