Irruptions: evidence for breeding season habitat limitation in Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) [PDF]

open access: goldAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2019
Effective management of wildlife populations requires identification of the factors limiting their growth. The Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) is an imperiled, disturbance-dependent, shorebird species that nests on broad, sparsely vegetated beaches ...

Selection indicates preference in diverse habitats: a ground-nesting bird (Charadrius melodus) using reservoir shoreline. [PDF]

open access: goldPLoS ONE, 2012
Animals use proximate cues to select resources that maximize individual fitness. When animals have a diverse array of available habitats, those selected could give insights into true habitat preferences.

Flight initiation distances of nesting Piping Plovers (Charadrius melodus) in response to human disturbance [PDF]

open access: goldAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2016
Birds frequently interact with people when they occur in coupled human-ecological or anthropogenic environments, which makes the protection of legally protected species a challenge.

Multi-year monitoring of Piping Plovers (Charadrius melodus) and other shorebirds in The Bahamas [PDF]

open access: goldBiodiversity Data Journal, 2023
The Bahamas provides a wide range of crucial coastal habitats to many declining resident and migratory birds. Amongst these species is the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus), whose breeding populations are all listed as federally threatened or endangered

The effectiveness and cost efficiency of different predator exclosure designs to increase piping plover ( Charadrius melodus ) nest success and fledging rate in Alberta, Canada [PDF]

open access: goldConservation Science and Practice, 2023
An estimated 30% of the North American piping plover (Charadrius melodus) breeding population occurs in Canada, where it is Endangered. Predator exclosures are a common management tool across the species' range to increase nest success.

Population Assessment of an Endangered Shorebird: the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus melodus) in Eastern Canada [PDF]

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology, 2006
Small, at-risk populations are those for which accurate demographic information is most crucial to conservation and recovery, but also where data collection is constrained by logistical challenges and small sample sizes.

Sequential Polyandry in Piping Plover, Charadrius melodus, Nesting in Eastern Canada [PDF]

open access: hybrid, 2004
On Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia, we confirmed that a banded female Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus melodus) produced two broods of chicks during the 2000 nesting season, the second on a beach approximately 2 km from the first.

Radio Transmitters did not Affect Apparent Survival Rates of Adult Piping Plovers (Charadrius melodus) [PDF]

open access: bronzeWaterbirds, 2019
Assessments of possible adverse effects of transmitters on marked individuals is an important component of individual-based tracking studies, particularly for species that are listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. The breeding and post-breeding movements of adult Piping Plovers (Charadrius melodus) from the federally-threatened Atlantic Coast ...

The Influence of Tide, Wind, and Habitat on the Abundance and Foraging Rate of Three Species of Imperiled Plovers in Southwest Florida, USA [PDF]

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus), Snowy Plover (Charadrius nivosus), and Wilson’s Plover (Charadrius wilsonia) are imperiled species that overlap in both their range and habitat outside the breeding season.
