Factors Influencing Snowy Plover (Charadrius nivosus) Nest Survival at Great Salt Lake, Utah

Waterbirds, 2015
Abstract. Reduced nest survival has been suggested as a primary cause for the decline of Snowy Plover (Charadrius nivosus) populations. The fates of Snowy Plover nests (n = 589) were determined from five locations at the Great Salt Lake in Utah during the 2003, 2005–2010 and 2012 breeding seasons.

Nest Success of Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) in the Southern High Plains of Texas

Waterbirds, 2011
Abstract. Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) nesting on edges of saline lakes within the Southern High Plains (SHP) of Texas are threatened by habitat degradation due to reduced artesian spring flow, making many saline lakes unsuitable for nesting and migrating shorebirds.

Apparent survival of Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus) varies with reproductive effort and year and between sexes

The Auk, 2013
Abstract. Life history theory predicts a tradeoff between reproductive effort and survival, which suggests that some management practices aimed at increasing productivity may compromise population growth. We analyzed a 10-year data set of 225 individually marked Snowy Plovers (Charadrius nivosus), a threatened shorebird, to determine whether individual

Evidence for exposure to selenium by breeding interior snowy plovers (Charadrius nivosus) in saline systems of the Southern Great Plains

Ecotoxicology, 2018
Interior snowy plover (Charadrius nivosus) population declines and deteriorating conditions throughout the Southern Great Plains (SGP) of Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma may be linked to environmental contaminants. Concentrations of V, As, Cd, Pb, and Se were quantified in breeding snowy plover blood, feathers (5th primary; P5), and potential prey ...

Western Snowy PloversCharadrius alexandrinus nivosusselect nesting substrates that enhance egg crypsis and improve nest survival

Ibis, 2011
Predation is an important cause of nest failure for many birds and has shaped the life‐history characteristics of many species, especially ground‐nesting shorebirds. We examined nesting success, causes of clutch failure and nest survival in relation to variation in substrate characteristics in a colour‐marked population of Western Snowy ...
