Castor Oil-Based Polyurethane Resin for Low-Density Composites with Bamboo Charcoal

open access: yesPolymers, 2018
Polyurethane (PU) foam adhesives were prepared from castor oil as a polyol with isocyanate poly(4,4’-methylene diphenyl isocyanate) (PMDI) using a solvent-free process. The NCO/OH molar ratio used for the preparation of PU foams was 1.5.

The impacts of biological invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Anthropocene is characterised by a continuous human‐mediated reshuffling of the distributions of species globally. Both intentional and unintentional introductions have resulted in numerous species being translocated beyond their native ranges, often leading to their establishment and subsequent spread – a process referred to as biological

Development of a co‐culture of Ureibacillus thermosphaericus and Cupriavidus taiwanensis for inhibitors removal from hemicellulose prehydrolysate

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
For biofuels production, hemicellulose pre‐hydrolysate is considered as an attractive feedstock rich in fermentable sugars. The pre‐hydrolysate derived from lignocellulosic biomass comprises, along with sugars, several inhibitors which can hamper its efficient conversion.

Feasibility of Charcoal Tattooing of Cytology-Proven Metastatic Axillary Lymph Node at Diagnosis and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy after Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer Patients

open access: yesCancer research and treatment : official journal of Korean Cancer Association, 2017
Purpose Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) can be performed when node-positive disease is converted to node-negative status after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT). Tattooing nodes might improve accuracy but supportive data are limited.

Efficacy of Drying Maize Seeds Using Zeolite Beads Under Hermetic Storage Conditions

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sun drying of seeds prior to storage is a common practice in Sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA), but this method is unpredictable, especially during rainy seasons. Seed longevity and survival in storage depend on seed moisture content (MC); hence, controlling MC in storage is essential.

Cyclodextrin‐Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Based on Formate Decomposition With Bio/Metal Catalysts

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Hydrogen evolution from formate with a hybrid system of enzyme, donor‐acceptor linked photocatalyst‐cyclodextrin complex (Mes‐Acr+‐CD) and platinum nanoparticle is reported. The use of CD as a dispersant for Mes‐Acr+ is a perfect strategy to enhance photocatalytic activity in aqueous solution without deactivation of the enzyme.

Effects of rice husk biochar application on the properties of alkaline soil and lentil growth

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2015
This study evaluated the effects of biochar application on some properties of an alkaline soil and on lentil (Lens culinaris Medik) growth. Lentils were grown in the soil amended with the rates of 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, 2.4, and 3.3 weight percent of two ...

Flexible and high energy density solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor based on polythiophene nanocomposites and charcoal

open access: yes, 2018
An asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) was constructed using a polythiophene/aluminium oxide (PTHA) nanocomposite as an anode electrode and charcoal as a cathode electrode. The highest specific capacitance (Csp) of the PTHA electrode was found to be 554.03 F

Reconstructing grassland fire history using sedimentary charcoal: Considering count, size and shape

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Fire is a key Earth system process, with 80% of annual fire activity taking place in grassland areas. However, past fire regimes in grassland systems have been difficult to quantify due to challenges in interpreting the charcoal signal in depositional ...

Transitioning Formamide Solvothermal Syntheses of MOFs to Less Toxic Solvents

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic Frameworks (MOFs) are commonly synthesized in toxic formamide solvents. This study investigates the synthetic factors required for effective removal of formamides across various classes of MOFs, providing a foundation for designing new sustainable MOF syntheses.
