Composite Electrospun Fibers Containing Optimized B‐ and Cu‐Doped Bioactive Glass Sol‐Gel Particles for Potential Soft Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article describes the preparation and characterization of poly(ε‐caprolactone) electrospun composite fibers incorporating sol‐gel‐derived bioactive glass particles doped with B and Cu. Scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, contact angle, acellular bioactivity, mechanical and ...

Oxidation States, Thouless’ Pumps, and Nontrivial Ionic Transport in Nonstoichiometric Electrolytes

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2020
Thouless’ quantization of adiabatic particle transport permits one to associate an integer topological charge with each atom of an electronically gapped material.

Fractional quantization of the topological charge pumping in a one-dimensional superlattice

open access: yes, 2015
A one-dimensional quantum charge pump transfers a quantized charge in each pumping cycle. This quantization is topologically robust being analogous to the quantum Hall effect.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Experimental Investigation of Cavitation Signatures in an Automotive Torque Converter Using a Microwave Telemetry Technique

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2003
A unique experimental investigation of cavitation signatures in an automotive torque converter under stall conditions is reported. A quantitative criterion is proposed for predicting early and advanced cavitation in terms of suitable nondimensional pump ...

Trace Nickel Activated Biphasic Core‐CuOii/Shell‐CuOi Secondary Microspheres Enable Room Temperature Parts‐Per‐Trillion‐Level NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An idea of designing novel sensors is proposed by creating appropriate Schottky barriers and vacancies between isomorphous Core‐CuOii/ Shell‐CuOi secondary microspheres and enhancing catalytic and spill‐over effects, and electronegativity via spontaneous biphasic separation, self‐assembly, and trace‐Ni‐doping.

Quantum-trajectory analysis for charge transfer in solid materials induced by strong laser fields

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the dependence of charge transfer on the intensity of driving laser field when SiO2 crystal is irradiated by an 800 nm laser. It is surprising that the direction of charge transfer undergoes a sudden reversal when the driving laser ...

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.

Intramolecular Down‐ and Up‐Conversion in Dimeric Tetracene Complexes Centered via Platinum(II) and Palladium(II)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐tetracene dimeric complexes are synthesized through the pyridyl coordination to either Pt(II) or Pd(II). Photophysical properties are systematically compared as a function of the metal using steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy. The Pt(II) dimer exhibits efficient intramolecular singlet fission and subsequent intramolecular up‐conversion ...

A Fully Integrated x4 Voltage Converter for Monolithic Photodiode Light Harvesting

open access: yesIEEE Access
In this article an integrated switched capacitor charge pump that uses negative photodiodes as the primary energy source is presented. In contrast with conventional bulk CMOS approaches, that use positive photodiodes in the front-end-of-line stack, which
