Quaternary Climate‐Driven Diversification of Alpine Grasshoppers in the Central Apennines: Insights Into Mediterranean Sky Islands as Centers of Microendemism

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Pleistocene climatic oscillations profoundly shaped Mediterranean mountain biotas through recurrent cycles of isolation and connectivity. Yet, despite the Central Apennines being a major centre of local endemism, this region has received limited attention in genomic studies addressing biogeographic processes.

Dualsteric Agonist for M2 Muscarinic Receptor Causes Oxidative Stress and Mitochondrial Alteration in Human Glioblastoma Cancer Stem Cells

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 5, May 2026.
Dualsteric agonist N8‐iper shows cytotoxic effects on glioblastoma cancer stem cells, but not on human normal astrocytes. Lipid accumulation appears as a consequence of cytotoxic stress; in fact, they are not present in healthy astrocytes. ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GB) is the most malignant form of human brain tumor, characterized by heterogeneous cell ...

Towards Mechanism‐Informed Treatments for Mental Health

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 5, May 2026.
Neuropsychiatric disorders impose a major global health burden, and current treatments, which historically mostly targeted dopamine and serotonin dysfunctions, often provide only partial, symptomatic relief. This review highlights emerging evidence that additional neuromodulator systems, including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and endocannabinoids ...

Fit for purpose? Analysis of the relationship between skull, beak shape and feeding ecology in Psittaciformes

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 248, Issue 5, Page 873-887, May 2026.
Psittaciformes exhibit high levels of morphological diversity, particularly in skull and beak structure, previously linked to diet and body size. Although there were some levels of significance between diet and beak shape, body mass was a much stronger co‐variate. Diet is not determining beak shape within the clade.
