First report of Pyelosomum cochlearLooss 1899 (Digenea: Pronocephalidae) in a Hawksbill Turtle – Eretmochelys imbricata L. found in Brazilian Coast

open access: yesHelminthologia, 2019
Pyelosomum cochlearLooss 1899 (Digenea: Pronocephalidae) is a parasite exclusive to sea turtles, having been described in the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) in Egypt, the USA, Panama, Costa Rica and Brazil as well as the olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys ...

The Status of Loggerhead, Caretta caretta; Kemp's Ridley, Lepidochelys kempi; and Green, Chelonia mydas, Sea Turtles in U.S. Waters: A Reconsideration [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Assessing the status of widely distributed marine species can prove difficult because virtually every sampling technique has assumptions, limitations, and biases that affect the results of the study.

Bile salts of the green turtle Chelonia mydas (L.) [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1978
1. Bile salts of the green turtle Chelonia mydas (L.) were analysed as completely as possible. 2. They consist of taurine conjugates of 3 alpha, 7 alpha, 12 alpha, 22 xi-tetrahydroxy-5 beta-cholestan-26-oic acid (tetrahydroxysterocholanic acid) and 3 alpha 12 alpha, 22 xi-trihydroxy-5 beta-cholestan-26-oic acid, with minor amounts of 3 alpha, 7 alpha ...

Hunter perceptions of a recreationally‐hunted invasive species during eradication from an island wildlife refuge

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
We quantified recreationists perceptions of wild pigs during an eradication program at Blackbeard Island, Georgia, U.S., by distributing a survey to participants of the 2024 archery hunt. Hunters overwhelmingly supported wild pig eradication (73.0%) and were concerned about wild pig impacts on native species (98.1%), yet only half believed eradication ...

Autopodial Development in the Sea Turtles Chelonia mydas and Caretta caretta [PDF]

open access: yesZoological Science, 2007
The manus and pes were studied using whole-mount and histological preparations of ontogenetic series of Chelonia mydas and Caretta caretta. Patterns of connectivity and sequences of chondrification events are similar to those reported for other turtle species, with respect to both the primary axis and the digital arch.

Ecological Insights and Management Implications of the Global Migratory Connectivity of Green Turtles

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Green turtles are a widely distributed and highly migratory species; despite extensive data on their movement, there is no species‐specific global synthesis on the subject. Based on three decades of published literature and building on previous global analyses, we developed a global network model of migratory connectivity for green turtles

Analysis of Sea Turtle Bycatch by Andalusia Pelagic Longline Fleet in the Northeast Atlantic

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 35, Issue 3, Page 386-396, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The Northeast Atlantic is one of the most crucial foraging grounds for juvenile loggerhead (Caretta caretta) and leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea), while also serving as an important fishing area for the Andalusia surface longline fishery. The main aim of present study is to assess the sea turtle interaction with the Andalusia pelagic
