Geopolymer composites for chemical looping combustion

Fuel, 2018
Chemical looping combustion allows a simple separation of CO2 during the combustion of fossil fuels, thanks to the use of regenerable oxygen carriers. In this work, novel materials containing manganese and iron/manganese oxides have been developed via geopolymerization, and characterized in thermogravimetric apparatus and fixed bed reactor.

Plantwide control of chemical looping combustion

2012 American Control Conference (ACC), 2012
Passive systems theory is used to develop a general procedure to design the control structure of chemical process networks. A natural storage function, derived from the second law of thermodynamics, is the basis for passivity-based control design. The inventory control laws are implemented locally and individual units become passive.

Thermal Analysis of Chemical-Looping Combustion

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2006
In chemical-looping combustion, a gaseous fuel is burnt with inherent separation of the greenhouse gas CO2. Oxygen is transferred from the combustion air to the fuel by an oxygen carrier, which is usually a metal oxide, and therefore direct contact between the fuel and the combustion air is avoided.

Solid fuels in chemical-looping combustion

International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control, 2008
The feasibility of using a number of different solid fuels in chemical-looping combustion (CLC) has been investigated. A laboratory fluidized bed reactor system for solid fuel, simulating a chemical-looping combustion system by exposing the sample to alternating reducing and oxidizing conditions, was used.

Scale-Up of Chemical Looping Combustion

2014
The use of chemical looping combustion (CLC) for power generation is a possible pathway to meet demands for developing clean and efficient fossil fuel-based energy systems. CLC is an advanced technology that captures CO2 inherently and could prove to be an advantageous next electricity generation technology in a carbon-constrained energy scenario ...

Particle characterisation in chemical looping combustion

Chemical Engineering Science, 2012
Abstract In a chemical looping combustion process, as the oxygen carrier circulates the system, it is subjected to morphological and compositional changes such as sintering, attrition and reaction between metal oxides and fuels. These changes may cause the deactivation of the oxygen carrier to decrease over time.

Chemical looping: To combustion and beyond

Catalysis Today, 2014
Abstract Chemical looping combustion (CLC) is a rapidly emerging technology for clean combustion of fossil and renewable fuels which allows production of sequestration-ready CO 2 streams with only minor efficiency penalties for CO 2 capture. While initial interest in chemical looping was almost exclusively focused on combustion, we demonstrate here

Chemical‐looping combustion process: Kinetics and mathematical modeling

AIChE Journal, 2010
AbstractChemical Looping Combustion technology involves circulating a metal oxide between a fuel zone where methane reacts under anaerobic conditions to produce a concentrated stream of CO2 and water and an oxygen rich environment where the metal is reoxidized.
