Spiral Waves of Chemical Activity
Science, 1972The Zhabotinsky-Zaikin reagent propagates waves of chemical activity. Reaction kinetics remain to be fully resolved, but certain features of wave behavior are determined by purely geometrical considerations. If a wave is broken, then spiral waves, resembling involutes of the circle, appear, persist, and eventually exclude all concentric ring waves.

Activation mechanisms to chemical toxicity
Archives of Toxicology, 1987The pathobiology of chemical toxicity may involve "acute lethal injury" (necrosis), "autoxidative injury" (oxygen toxicity), "immunological injury" (neoantigen formation), and malignancy. Toxic chemicals may be activated by reduction, conjugation, radical formation, or oxidation.

Metabolic activation of chemical carcinogens
1982Ideally the end result may differ, but there are similarities between the metabolic pathways of chemical carcinogens and drugs, for both are xenobiotics or foreign substances. Furthermore, certain drugs may increase the risk of a possible carcinogenic effect after long-term administration.

Chemical Constitution and Carcinogenic Activity
1954Publisher Summary The study of chemical carcinogenesis dates from 1915, when cancer was first produced experimentally by the long-continued application of coal tar to the ears of rabbits, but it was not until 1930 that cancer was produced by the application of a pure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, 1,2,5,6-dibenzanthracene, to the skin of mice.
