Dissolved organic matter mediates the interactions between bacterial community and heavy metal fractionation in contaminated coal mine soils

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Heavy metal (HM) contamination in coal mine soils disrupts local bacterial networks, leading to prolonged soil deterioration. Dissolved organic matter (DOM), a crucial soil component, actively modulates both bacterial metabolism and HM mobilization ...

Hydro-chemical studies and assessment of trace elements and bacterial contamination of shallow groundwater of Oyo area, southwestern Nigeria

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract Groundwater from various shallow hand-dug wells is the only reliable source of water supply in the ancient town of Oyo in southwestern Nigeria. The present work studied the water quality in twenty-five wells across this area by measuring the ancillary parameters, and analyzing the major and trace elements and taking the inventory of ...

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...

Surface engineering for biological recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The underlying idea of this thesis is that the surface chemical and morphological nature of bacterial strains uniquely differentiates one from another and hence can be used as the basis for their identification and control.

Ultrasensitive Detection of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Infections Using Multivalent DNA Nanostructure‐Enabled Lateral Flow Assay

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent DNA nanostructure‐enabled lateral flow assay was developed for rapid, ultrasensitive detection of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) nucleocapsid protein. Designer net‐shaped DNA nanostructures (DNA‐Net) presenting PEDV‐specific aptamers achieved ~1000‐fold enhanced binding, enabling detection of viral copies with Ct ≤ 37.42 within 10

Photothermal‐Activated Antibacterial Amyloid‐Polyphenol‐Iron Hydrogels for Synergistic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We report a thermally triggered supramolecular hydrogel (LTFe) formed by Fe3+ and tannic acid on lysozyme amyloid fibrils. Fe3+ enables rapid gelation and photothermal transduction with an efficiency of 88.56%. The LTFe hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility, potent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S.
