2017 State-of-the-Science of Dispersants and Dispersed Oil (DDO) in U.S. Arctic Waters: Efficacy & Effectiveness [PDF]
Chemical dispersants were employed on an unprecedented scale during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and could be a response option should a large spill occur in Arctic waters. The use of dispersants in response to that spill raised

Traditional carbon materials show limited high‐temperature oxidation resistance, which becomes pronounced above 673 K and significantly restricts their practical applicability. To address this challenge, enhancing polarization loss and leveraging its negative temperature dependence to offset the temperature‐induced increase in conductance loss are ...

Production of Ultrafine, High-purity Ceramic Powders Using the US Bureau of Mines Developed Turbomill [PDF]
Turbomilling, an innovative grinding technology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Mines in the early 1960's for delaminating filler-grade kaolinitic clays, has been expanded into the areas of particle size reduction, material mixing, and process reaction ...

Development of a testing protocol for oil solidifier effectiveness evaluation [PDF]
Chemical countermeasures for oil spill remediation have to be evaluated and approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency before they may be used to remove or control oil discharges. Solidifiers are chemical agents that change oil from a liquid to

A new fast method for ceramic foam impregnation: Application to the CCVD synthesis of carbon nanotubes [PDF]
A new process that allows preparing, in a single step, good washcoats of catalytic materials for the catalytic chemical vapour deposition (CCVD) synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in reticulated ceramic foams is reported. It is shown that the washcoats,

The incorporation of transition‐metal elements into spinel oxides results in enhanced configurational entropy and increased metal‐support interaction, which continuously modulate the exsolution of nickel‐based active metal. The highly dispersed nickel‐based metal catalyst, formed through the entropy‐controlled strategy, demonstrates remarkable activity
