Quantification of Homopolymer Impurities in Structured Acrylate Copolymers Produced by High‐Temperature Semi‐Batch Radical Polymerization

open access: yesMacromolecular Reaction Engineering, EarlyView.
Isobornyl acrylate macromonomer solutions are synthesized via high‐temperature radical polymerization using a starved‐feed semi‐batch operating policy. Through sequential feeding, the macromonomer solution functions as an addition‐fragmentation agent, facilitating the production of blocky and comb acrylate copolymers.

BP Gulf Science Data Reveals Ineffectual Subsea Dispersant Injection for the Macondo Blowout

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2018
After the Deepwater Horizon oil platform explosion, an estimated 172.2 million gallons of gas-saturated oil was discharged uncontrollably into the Gulf of Mexico, causing the largest deep-sea blowout in history.

Reinforcement and Rheology of Epoxy‐Mediated Lignin Integration in Carboxylated Nitrile Rubber

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
The interaction of lignin‐epoxy resin‐XNBR and the effect of lignin on the nonlinear rheological behavior of epoxy‐cured XNBR/lignin composites. ABSTRACT Lignin has attracted increasing interest as a renewable filler for rubber composites; however, it shows weaker reinforcing efficiency than conventional fillers such as carbon black and silica ...

Supramolecular Surface Functionalization of Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes With Conjugated Graft Copolymers

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Post‐polymerization modification of poly(tetrazine‐co‐fluorene) conjugated polymer via an inverse‐electron‐demand Diels‐Alder reaction (IEDDA) introduces hydroxyl initiators that enable surface‐initiated ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of lactide.

Synthesis of Amphiphilic Materials for the Investigation of Dispersant Dynamics and Nanoparticle End-Group Presentation

open access: yes, 2017
Amphiphiles – compounds that possess both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties – are ubiquitous in nature and the chemical industry. Due to their dual character, amphiphilic compounds tend to be surface active and self-aggregate in solution, leading to

Synthesis of Carboxyl Terminated Polymyrcene by Anionic Polymerization Using CO2 as a Terminating Agent

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
The anionic polymerization of myrcene and termination with carbon dioxide to produce carboxyl terminated chains were investigated. The highest degree of functionalization was obtained in the batch reactor by headspace addition of the CO2 to the unstirred reactor at −78°C.

Chitosan‐protected dsRNA increases efficacy against Helicoverpa armigera without compromising biosafety for pollinators

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Chitosan/tripolyphosphate/double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA) nanoparticles enhance RNA interference efficacy of orally delivered dsRNA against Helicoverpa armigera. Nanoparticles reduce the LC50 and do not cause deleterious effects or toxicity on beneficial insects.

EWOD Sensor for Rapid Quantification of Marine Dispersants in Oil Spill Management

open access: yesJournal of Sensor and Actuator Networks
In this study, we introduce a novel Electrowetting-on-Dielectric (EWOD) sensor designed to quantify marine dispersants at the spill point. The sensor quantifies changes in the surface tension of liquid droplets at varying dispersant concentrations ...
