Keggin‐Type Aluminum Polyoxometalate‐Mediated Oxidation of Amorphous Carbon for Engineered Electrochemical Interfaces

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Keggin‐type Al‐POM‐coated silica achieves selective surface oxidation of amorphous carbon through electrostatic attraction and proton‐coupled oxidation, tailoring interfacial properties for lithium‐ion batteries and semiconductor processes. ABSTRACT Amorphous carbon is widely used in energy storage and semiconductor technologies, where surface ...

EWOD Sensor for Rapid Quantification of Marine Dispersants in Oil Spill Management

open access: yesJournal of Sensor and Actuator Networks
In this study, we introduce a novel Electrowetting-on-Dielectric (EWOD) sensor designed to quantify marine dispersants at the spill point. The sensor quantifies changes in the surface tension of liquid droplets at varying dispersant concentrations ...

Marine Oil Snow Sedimentation and Flocculent Accumulation (MOSSFA) Workshop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The MOSSFA hypothesis is that the formation of marine snow/oil aggregates and its accumulation at the seafloor is related to events associated with the oil spill, various mitigation measures (e.g., the use of dispersants and in situ burning), and ...

Intrinsically Ultrahigh‐Rate Charging Capability of Conversion Reaction Cathodes and Its Origin: A Mechanism Study on FeS2

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Origin of the ultrahigh‐rate charge capability of FeS2: FeS2 demonstrates exceptional high‐rate charging capability, delivering 92% capacity retention at 10 C and maintaining as much as 60% capacity retention even at 30 C. This originates from an ultrahigh apparent diffusion coefficient involving both Li+ and Fe2+.

Biodegradation of Alkali-O2 Oxidized Lignins Used as Dispersants

open access: yesBioResources, 2022
Large quantities of lignin are produced as by-streams via chemical pulping and emerging biorefinery processes. These lignins are typically water-insoluble; however, they can be converted into a water-soluble form by chemical modifications.

Formation and Characterization of Insoluble Anthocyanins‐λ‐carrageenan Biopolyelectrolyte Complexes: Structural Morphology, Thermal Stability, and Release Dynamics

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
Insoluble biopolyelectrolyte complexes formed between blackberry anthocyanins and λ‐carrageenan are investigated. Optimal complexation occurs at low carrageenan ratios and acidic pH, producing porous hydrogel‐like structures with enhanced thermal stability.

Enhancing Stability of Metallic Magnesium Nanoparticles toward Oxidation in Water via PEG‐Phosphonate Passivation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Metallic magnesium nanoparticles are stabilized against rapid oxidation in water through surface passivation with phosphonic acid–terminated poly(ethylene glycol). By controlling the timing of ligand addition during synthesis, nanoparticle growth, morphology, and aqueous lifetime are tuned, extending stability from minutes to hours while preserving ...
