Assessing the techno-economic and sustainable potential of chemical looping for bioenergy production from organic solid wastes

open access: yesEnergy Storage and Saving
Organic solid waste from municipal, agricultural, biomass, and industrial sources poses significant concerns because of its continuous production and diverse chemical and physical characteristics. Proper handling and conversion strategies are required to

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Evaluation of CuO/MgAl2O4 in Biomass Chemical Looping Gasification with Oxygen Uncoupling

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Chemical looping gasification (CLG) is a promising method for the utilization of biomass to produce syngas. However, its realization is largely dependent on the use of an oxygen carrier with a high and stable reactivity in cyclic reduction and oxidation.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Chemical looping technologies for carbon capture and energy conversion

open access: yes, 2023
This Thesis is concerned with chemical looping technologies for carbon capture and energy conversion of fossil fuels. In chemical looping, solid oxygen carriers are cyclically reduced and oxidised to aid reactions such as combustion, air separation ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
