An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Constructing Activatable Photosensitizers Using Covalently Modified Mesoporous Silica

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The combination of photosensitizers (PSs) and nanomaterials is a widely used strategy to enhance PS efficacy and broaden their applicability. However, the current nanocarrier‐based delivery strategies focus on conventional PSs, neglecting the critical ...

Preparation of Solution Blown Polyamic Acid Nanofibers and Their Imidization into Polyimide Nanofiber Mats

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2017
Solution blow spinning (SBS) is an innovative process for spinning micro/nanofibers. In this paper, polyamic acid (PAA) nanofibers were fabricated via a SBS apparatus and then imidized into polyimide (PI) nanofibers via thermal process.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Controllable large-scale processing of temperature regulating sheath-core fibers with high-enthalpy for thermal management

open access: yesNano Materials Science
Temperature regulating fibers (TRFs) with high enthalpy and high form stability are the key factors for thermal management. However, the enthalpies of most TRFs are not high, and the preparation methods are still at the laboratory scale.

Photoredox-catalyzed branch-selective pyridylation of alkenes for the expedient synthesis of Triprolidine

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Alkenylpyridines are versatile building blocks for the synthesis of drugs and other complex molecular structures. Here, the authors show a branch-selective pyridylation of alkenes via sulfinate-assisted photoredox catalysis and showcase its utility in an

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
