Optimum Anesthesia with Intrapleural Lidocaine during Chemical Pleurodesis with Tetracycline
Chest, 1988Chemical pleurodesis with tetracycline is frequently complicated by pleuritic chest pain. The most promising approach to control pain is to optimize the use of intrapleural lidocaine. While administering amounts of intrapleural lidocaine larger than commonly reported, we attempted to determine a safe and more effective dose, by using a subjective and ...

Chemical Pleurodesis in Palliative Setting: A Brunei Experience
2022BACKGROUND Malignant pleural effusion is typically a sign of an aggressive and advanced disease, generally with a short life expectancy. This causes a lot of burdens symptomatically to patients with advanced malignancy. Hence, a lot of patients are made known early to palliative service to help optimize patients’ quality of life. One of the procedures

Chemical pleurodesis for first presentation of primary spontaneous pneumothorax
Current Pulmonology Reports, 2015Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) most commonly occurs in young, tall, lean males. The PSP recurrence rate varies between 16 and 52 % after the first episode. This high recurrence rate has stimulated the development of different therapeutic approaches, ranging from simple aspiration to invasive therapies, including chemical pleurodesis or surgery.

Pleural Effusion in Yellow Nail Syndrome: Chemical Pleurodesis and Its Outcome
Respiration, 1994Two cases of yellow nail syndrome (a triad of yellow dystrophic nails, chronic lymphedema and pleural effusion) are described which demonstrate long-term control of recurrent pleural effusions by tetracycline pleurodesis. Neither patient developed problems as a result of the procedure enabling us to conclude that tetracycline pleurodesis is effective ...

Surgery Today, 2016
To compare the outcomes and efficacy of awake video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) with those of chemical pleurodesis for intractable secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP).We analyzed, retrospectively, 60 consecutive patients who underwent awake VATS (n = 22) or chemical pleurodesis (n = 38) for SSP.

Comparative Study between Different Agents Used in Chemical Pleurodesis
Egyptian Journal of Hospital MedicineBackground: Pleurodesis is a medical technique used to eliminate the gap among the parietal and visceral pleura in order to avoid the reoccurrence of pleural effusion or pneumothorax. This method involves the introduction of a chemical substance into the pleural space, which leads to the scarring and adhesion of the membranes.

Chemical pleurodesis in the treatment of iterative neoplastic effusion.
Rivista europea per le scienze mediche e farmacologiche = European review for medical and pharmacological sciences = Revue europeenne pour les sciences medicales et pharmacologiques, 1995The presence of a pleural effusion is a serious complication in the course of neoplastic diseases, where it assumes a determining medical and prognostic role. Thus the applications of adequate therapeutic methodologies becomes of primary importance to drain the effusion and to obtain an efficacious pleurodesis.
