The occurrence and management of fluid retention associated with TKI therapy in CML, with a focus on dasatinib [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) like dasatinib and nilotinib are indicated as second-line treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia resistant or intolerant to the current first-line TKI imatinib. These are agents are well tolerated, but potent and as such

Medical thoracoscopy with talc pleurodesis for refractory hepatic hydrothorax: A case series of three successes

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports
Medical thoracoscopy with chemical pleurodesis is a last resort for managing patients who suffer.from recurrent hepatic hydrothorax. However, despite pleurodesis, the rapid fluid build-up can hinder the successful apposition of the pleural surfaces.

Autologous Blood Pleurodesis Through an Indwelling Pleural Catheter for the Management of Prolonged Air Leak in a Malignant Hydropneumothorax

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2025.
Here we describe a novel management approach for persistent air‐leak in the setting of a malignant hydropneumothorax. Autologous blood pleurodesis via an indwelling pleuralcatheter appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for non‐surgical candidates and allows ongoing long‐term drainage of a malignant effusion and air leak.

The efficacy and safety of povidone-iodine as a pleurodesis-inducing agent in spontaneous pneumothorax: An experience from a tertiary care hospital for publication

open access: yesJournal of Medical Sciences, 2018
Background: Primary or secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP or SSP) is a common treatable disease but notorious for its recurrence over the years. Intercoastal tube (ICT) thoracostomy is often done to relieve pneumothorax.

A combination of a DNA-chimera siRNA against PLK-1 and zoledronic acid suppresses the growth of malignant mesothelioma cells in vitro. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Although novel agents effective against malignant mesothelioma (MM) have been developed, the prognosis of patients with MM is still poor. We generated a DNA-chimeric siRNA against polo-like kinase-1 (PLK-1), which was more stable in human serum than the ...

Outcome of ultrasound-guided, single session pleurodesis in malignant pleural effusion

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Bronchology, 2020
Background Chemical pleurodesis is frequently indicated to relieve symptoms imposed by large/recurrent malignant pleural effusion (MPE). Traditionally, a drain is left in the pleural space till the cessation of fluid accumulation before pleurodesis ...

Tension Pneumothorax Requiring Video‐Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery With Multimodal Pleurodesis: An Unexpected Ramification of a Ground Level Fall Without Significant Blunt or Penetrating Injury

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 3, March 2025.
This case highlights the potential for severe complications in an otherwise healthy patient with tension pneumothorax resulting from a ground‐level fall onto an absorbent soft surface with mild indirect thoracic trauma. Initial respiratory status, coupled with asthma history, was worrisome for asthma exacerbation; however, imaging confirmed tension ...
