Global chemical pollution

Environmental Science & Technology, 1991
Over the past decade, public and governmental awareness of environmental problems has grown steadily, with an accompanying increase in the regulation of point sources of pollution. As a result, great strides have been made in cleaning polluted rivers and decreasing air pollution near factories.

Inorganic Chemical Pollutants

2017
The US Environmental Protection Agency has criteria inorganic outdoor air pollutants as follows: carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ozone, lead, and suspended particulate matter, which have widely variable chemical compositions. Most studies have focused on neurological and cardiac effects related to acute high-level CO exposures ...

Control of Chemical Pollutants

Nature, 1970
Concern for environmental quality and consumer safety is burgeoning, and some classic assumptions of industrial society are being challenged. Now that apparent conflicts have developed between the needs for continued economic growth and environmental management it is timely to review some of the basic problems of chemical pollution, to develop methods ...

Chemical pollution and ecotoxicology

2017
1. Baltic Sea organisms appear to be particularly sensitive to persistent hazardous substances because many of them are physiologically stressed in their brackish-water environment. 2. The profile of chemical pollution of the Baltic Sea has changed during the past decades with reductions in the concentrations of many “legacy contaminants”

Chemical pollution

Abstract Ecosystems around the globe are increasingly being inundated with a cocktail of chemical pollutants. From antidepressant drugs found in the tissues of fish from the Niagara River to persistent organic pollutants detected in polar bears from Arctic ecosystems, pollutants are capable of affecting the development, physiology ...

Chemical Pollution from Transportation Vehicles*

School Science and Mathematics, 1968
Recent publicity on electrically powered vehicles notwithstanding, the gasoline engine will probably be the principal power plant for passenger cars for at least the next decade. Chemical pollutants discharged by the gasoline engine are now under partial control.

Persistent Chemical Pollutants

2018
A legacy of persistent pollutants is widely distributed in the environment, increasing the potential for exposure of wildlife and humans. This POSTnote sets out the challenge this posed for regulators, current regulatory approaches and some of the emerging issues.

Systems chemical analysis of petroleum pollutants

Analytical Chemistry, 1976
The application of an established mathematical treatment useful for the characterization and identification of petroleum pollutions is described. Using discriminant analysis of relevant infrared spectrophotometric data, 99% of numerous known and unknown oil samples have been correctly characterized and identified.
