PBF‐LB/M of Ti‐6Al‐4V: High‐Pressure Solution Treatment and Aging for Applications in a Sustainable Aerospace

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Preparation of nano magnesium hydroxide as a potential flame retardant: effects of alcohol type and drying method

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
Magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH) _2 ) is widely used as a flame-retardant filler in various composite materials and as a precursor of magnesium oxide ceramics. The microstructure and particle size of the powder is of prime importance in these applications. In

Nanoindentation Criteria for Combinatorial Thin Film Libraries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thin‐film material libraries are compositional spreads used for screening composition‐structure‐property relationships. Nanoindentation is often used to characterize mechanical behavior across these systems, however variations in methodology are widespread.
