Chemical routes to top-down nanofabrication

Chemical Society Reviews, 2013
In fabricating materials at the nanometer scale, nanotechnologists typically employ two general strategies: bottom-up and top-down. While the bottom-up approach constructs nanomaterials from basic building blocks like atoms or molecules, the top-down approach produces nanostructures by deconstructing larger materials with the use of lithographic tools (

Chemical Topping Burley Tobacco

2018
The act of topping tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) involves the removal of the terminal bud or inflorescence of the tobacco plant. This practice ordinarily is accomplished by manually removing the top of each tobacco plant in an entire field which is labor intensive and costly.

Biorefineries for the production of top building block chemicals and their derivatives

Metabolic Engineering, 2015
Due to the growing concerns on the climate change and sustainability on petrochemical resources, DOE selected and announced the bio-based top 12 building blocks and discussed the needs for developing biorefinery technologies to replace the current petroleum based industry in 2004.

Specialty firms top chemical profitability

Chemical & Engineering News Archive, 1982
Specialty chemical firms' profitability generally declined last year, but they continued to dominate C&EN's rankings of profitability measures among U.S. chemical companies. However, there are some changes in the profitability lineup for 1981. No longer do the small mineral and fertilizer companies head up all of the rankings.

Hindered asymmetric top states for chemical reactions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1975
A computational method for development of hindered asymmetric top rotational wavefunctions for atom–diatom chemical reactions is presented. The external rotation of the triatomic system is that of a nonrigid asymmetric top that is in no way hindered.

A Top Down Chemically Embodied Artificial Life Computation

The 2020 Conference on Artificial Life, 2020
In my laboratory we are interested in creating the conditions that allow an artificial life form to emerge. But how do we know when our chemical system is really on the path to life?
