The (Un)reasonable Effectiveness of Neural Network in Cherenkov Calorimetry
We report a greater than factor of two improvement in the hadronic energy resolution of a simulated Cherenkov calorimeter by estimating the energy with machine learning over traditional techniques.

Directing Cherenkov photons with spatial nonlocality
Cherenkov radiation in natural transparent materials is generally forward-propagating, owing to the positive group index of radiation modes. While negative-index metamaterials enable reversed Cherenkov radiation, the forward photon emission from a swift ...

Study of Cherenkov light lateral distribution function around the knee region in extensive air showers [PDF]
The Cherenkov light lateral distribution function (LDF) was simulated with the CORSIKAcode in the energy range (1013 - 1016) eV. This simulation was performed for conditions and configurations of the Tunka EAS Cherenkov array for the two primary

Cherenkov Radiation in Moving Medium [PDF]
Cherenkov radiation in uniformly moving homogenous isotropic medium without dispersion is studied. Formula for the spectrum of Cherenkov radiation of fermion was derived for the case when the speed of the medium is less than the speed of light in this medium at rest. The properties of Cherenkov spectrum are investigated.

Cherenkov radiation of light bullets [PDF]
Electrically charged particles, moving faster than the speed of light in a medium, emit Cherenkov radiation. Theory predicts electric and magnetic dipoles to radiate as well, with a puzzling behavior for magnetic dipoles pointing in transversal direction [I. M. Frank, Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Fiz. 6, 3 (1942)].

PurposeReal-time monitoring of physiological changes of tumor tissue during radiation therapy (RT) could improve therapeutic efficacy and predict therapeutic outcomes. Cherenkov radiation is a normal byproduct of radiation deposited in tissue.

Sources of Low-Energy Events in Low-Threshold Dark-Matter and Neutrino Detectors
We discuss several low-energy backgrounds to sub-GeV dark-matter searches, which arise from high-energy particles of cosmic or radioactive origin that interact with detector materials. We focus, in particular, on Cherenkov radiation, transition radiation,
