INTERNATIONAL ASSESSMENTS OF IMPACTS OF THE CHERNOBYL ACCIDENT: THE CHERNOBYL FORUM (2003–2005) AND UNSCEAR (2005–2008)

open access: yesРадиационная гигиена, 2015
Radiological consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP were recently revisited by the UN Chernobyl Forum (2003-2005) and UNSCEAR (2005-2008). For the first time environmental impacts were considered in detail, including radioactive contamination ...

Pediatric Thyroid Cancer in Europe: An Overdiagnosed Condition? A Literature Review

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2020
Thyroid neoplastic pathology is the most common form of cancer associated with radiation exposure. The most common histopathological type of thyroid carcinoma is the differentiated thyroid cancer (these include papillary and follicular type), which ...

Space‐use by feral cattle and horses shapes vegetation structure in a trophic rewilding area

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Feral cattle (Bos taurus) and horses (Equus ferus caballus) are commonly introduced to European rewilding areas to halt vegetation succession and to conserve light‐demanding species. Yet, we still do not understand how the habitat preference of animals shapes vegetation structure at the landscape scale.

Reproduction in the freshwater crustacean Asellus aquaticus along a gradient of radionuclide contamination at Chernobyl.

open access: yesScience of the Total Environment, 2018
Nuclear accidents such as Chernobyl and Fukushima have led to contamination of the environment that will persist for many years. The consequences of chronic low-dose radiation exposure for non-human organisms inhabiting contaminated environments remain ...

Uranium and Neptunium Accumulation by the Byssus of Mytilus galloprovincialis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 1, January 1, 2026.
Investigation of uranyl(VI) and neptunyl(V) uptake in mussel's byssus by combining in vivo bioaccumulation with ex vivo isotherms. Data highlight the role of DOPA‐rich mfp proteins in binding both actinyl cations and partial Np(V) reduction. Such data link molecular interactions to radionuclide uptake in the framework of marine radioecology.

Seeds in Chernobyl: the database on proteome response on radioactive environment

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2012
Two serious nuclear accidents during the last quarter century (Chernobyl, 1986; Fukushima 2011) contaminated large agricultural areas with radioactivity.

Prognostic Significance of Solid Subtype of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Analysis of 63 Patients

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 1, Page 5-12, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Solid subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma (SSPTC) is an uncommon subtype of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) and its prognostic significance is still controversial. The aim of this review is to present the clinicopathological features of SSPTC and compare its clinical behavior with classical PTC (cPTC).

J-value assessment of relocation measures following the nuclear power plant accidents at Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi

open access: yes, 2017
The policies of population relocation put in train following the severe nuclear reactor accidents at Chernobyl in 1986 and Fukushima Daiichi in 2011 are examined using the Judgement- or J-value.

Gene signature of the post-Chernobyl papillary thyroid cancer

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, 2016
PurposeFollowing the nuclear accidents in Chernobyl and later in Fukushima, the nuclear community has been faced with important issues concerning how to search for and diagnose biological consequences of low-dose internal radiation contamination ...
