Influence of rehabilitation measures on 137Cs uptake by crops from soils contaminated during the Chernobyl NPP accident

Eurasian Soil Science, 2009
The dynamics of 137Cs uptake by crops and the influence of rehabilitation measures on the accumulation of this radionuclide in agricultural products have been estimated by the example of southwestern regions of Bryansk oblast. In 20 yr after the Chernobyl NPP accident, three stages of a decrease in the concentration of 137Cs in the crops can be ...

Development of requirements for environmental specimen banking in ecological monitoring (exemplified by the Chernobyl NPP accident area)

Science of The Total Environment, 1993
Development of requirements for a data bank for natural media as a system of intercorrelated parameters to estimate system states are determined. The problems of functional agreement between experimental and calculation methods are analysed when organizing the ecological monitoring. The methods of forming the environmental specimen bank to estimate and

Efficiency of measures aimed at decreasing the contamination of agricultural products in areas contaminated by the Chernobyl NPP accident

Science of The Total Environment, 1992
The sequence of agricultural countermeasures taken in the Polessye area of the Ukraine contaminated by radionuclides as a result of the Chernobyl NPP accident is discussed. The efficiency of these countermeasures has been analysed. The concentration of 137Cs in crops has been shown to vary 10-100-fold, depending on the biological features of the plant ...

[Unsolved radioecological problems of Chernobyl NPP Exclusion Zone at late phase of the accident].

Radiatsionnaia biologiia, radioecologiia, 2009
Some scientific and scientific-industrial radioecological problems of Chernobyl NPP Exclusion Zone are considered. These problems are demanding its solution or development of already obtaining results for adequate understanding and planning of conducted researches as well as for decision support of activities directed to minimization of the accident ...

Radioactive contamination of the Central Russian Upland and its surroundings 21 years after the Chernobyl NPP accident

Russian Meteorology and Hydrology, 2009
The Chernobyl NPP accident resulted, due to the western atmospheric transfer, in the formation of a pattern crossing the Central Russian Upland and its surroundings in the latitudinal direction. A volatile long–lived dose-forming radionuclide 137Cs prevailed in the fallout.

Effect of 137Cs accumulation by organomineral coarse particles in sandy soils contaminated during the Chernobyl NPP accident

Eurasian Soil Science, 2006
Dark-colored particles in the coarse fractions of sandy soils were found to concentrate 137Cs. Up to 94% of the fractional 137Cs was associated with these particles in the sand and coarse silt fractions, although their relative mass did not exceed 1–5%.

LIVESTOCK FARMING TECHNOLOGIES IN CASE OF LARGE-SCALE RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATION (TO 35TH-ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHERNOBYL NPP ACCIDENT)

Vestnik of the Russian agricultural science, 1970
On the example of the Chernobyl NPP accident, the problems of animal husbandry in case of radioactive contamination of hayfields and pastures are shown. The factors determining the accumulation of radionuclides in milk and meat are presented. It is noted that the excess of radiological standards for the content of 137Cs in livestock products in the ...

Assessment of possible mechanisms of decreasing 137Cs concentrations in river waters affected by the Chernobyl NPP accident

Russian Meteorology and Hydrology, 2008
The analysis of possible mechanisms of 137Cs concentration changes in surface waters was performed in the process of preparation of reliable long-range forecasts of radioactive river contamination after the Chernobyl accident. The following mechanisms were considered: (1) radioactive decay; (2) advective transport with river waters; (3) irreversible ...

[The dose estimation of woody plants in the long-term after the Chernobyl NPP accident].

Radiatsionnaia biologiia, radioecologiia, 2008
Dosimetric models have been developed to estimate the exposure doses of woody plants growing in the area contaminated by long-lived radionuclides. The models are parameterized based on the data obtained from the experimental plots in the south-west districts of the Bryansk region affected by radioactive fallout of the Chernobyl NPP accident.
