This study assessed the industrial hemp value web resilience in the Swabian Alb, Southern Germany, where regional implementation remains limited despite hemp's bioeconomy potential. Using an indicator framework and stakeholder interviews, the research found the small, fluctuating cultivation area (e.g., 25 ha in 2024) focuses on hemp seed valorisation;

Development of a locus-specific, co-dominant SCAR marker for assisted-selection of the Sw-5 (Tospovirus resistance) gene cluster in a wide range of tomato accessions [PDF]
The best levels of broad-spectrum Tospovirus resistance reported in tomatoes thus far are conferred by the Sw-5 locus. This locus contains at least five paralogues (denoted Sw-5a through Sw-5e), of which Sw-5b represents the actual resistance gene.

ABSTRACT Background Dietary melatonin, naturally occurring in plant‐ and animal‐based foods, has been linked to beneficial effects on sleep, mood and metabolic health. Although evidence suggests that food‐derived melatonin may elevate circulating levels, few studies have assessed its intake through habitual diets or explored associations with chronic ...

In-package atmospheric pressure cold plasma treatment of cherry tomatoes
Cold plasma is increasingly under research for decontamination of foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. The effect of cold plasma on food quality, however, remains under researched. This study investigates the effects of cold plasma generated within a sealed package from a dielectric barrier discharge on the physical quality parameters and ...

Fruit function beyond dispersal: effect of fruit decomposition on the plant microbiome assembly
Summary The evolutionary role of fruits has primarily been linked to seed dispersal. However, their influence on the soil and plant microbiomes subsequent to their decomposition has received no attention. We hypothesized that fruit decomposition alters the soil microbiome, and consequently the plant microbiome and performance.

Organic fertilization in cherry tomato plants
Cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is highly demanding with regard to mineral nutrients. The use of animal manure shows to be an efficient and sustainable fertilization way for this crop. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different doses of cattle manure in the vegetative and reproductive growth of cherry tomato. The experiment was conducted

Abstract BACKGROUND The green bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), of the ‘Lamuyo’ type, is a highly valued vegetable owing to its excellent organoleptic and nutritional properties. However, these properties are subject to deterioration during postharvest storage, which in turn limits the shelf‐life of the pepper fruit.
