A Portable Diagnostic Device for Cardiac Magnetic Field Mapping [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In this paper we present a portable magnetocardiography device. The focus of this development was delivering a rapid assessment of chest pain in an emergency department. The aim was therefore to produce an inexpensive device that could be rapidly deployed in a noisy unshielded ward environment.

Chest pain in the emergency department: risk stratification with Manchester triage system and HEART score

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders, 2015
BackgroundFast and accurate chest pain risk stratification in the emergency department (ED) is critical. The HEART score predicts the short-term incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in this population, dividing it in three risk categories. We

Autologous Nonmyeloablative Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Diffuse Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis: Identifying Disease Risk Factors for Toxicity and Long‐Term Outcomes in a Prospective, Single‐Arm Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Two randomized trials for patients with diffuse systemic sclerosis (SSc) demonstrated an overall survival (OS) and event‐free survival (EFS) advantage of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) using CD34+ selected peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) compared with monthly cyclophosphamide (CY).

Associations of Fire Smoke and Other Pollutants With Incident Rheumatoid Arthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis–Associated Interstitial Lung Disease

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to determine whether pollutants such as fire smoke–related particulate matter <2.5 μm (PM2.5) are associated with incident rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and RA‐associated interstitial lung disease (RA‐ILD). Methods This patient–control study used Veterans Affairs (VA) data from October 1, 2009, to December 31, 2018.

Radiation Dose and Prognosis of Ultra-Low-Dose Stress-First Myocardial Perfusion SPECT in Patients with Chest Pain Using a High-Efficiency Camera

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Medicine, 2015
Although SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) provides valuable information about patients with chest pain, there is growing concern regarding its radiation burden and lengthy duration. New high-efficiency (HE) cameras and stress-first protocols both

Background: Solitary fibrous tumor is the second primary malignancy of the pleura and can reach up to 39cm in diameter; to be referred to as giant it must occupy at least 40% of the affected hemithorax. Although this tumor usually shows a benign behavior malignancy criteria have been described.

Diagnostic values of chest pain history, ECG, troponin and clinical gestalt in patients with chest pain and potential acute coronary syndrome assessed in the emergency department

open access: yesSpringerPlus, 2015
In the assessment of chest pain patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the emergency department (ED), physicians rely on global diagnostic impressions (‘gestalt’).

Performance of different dynamic oxygenation indices incorporating heart rate to predict non-invasive ventilation outcomes in hypoxemic respiratory failure

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Bronchology
Background Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) becomes crucial ventilatory support for respiratory failure patients, but wasting time in high-risk patients for suspected NIV failure and delayed intubation with invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) is also ...
