Impact of 1024‐Matrix Size on Perforating Artery Visualisation in Cerebral Computed Tomography Angiography Using a 64‐Slice CT Scanner

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
This study investigated whether using a larger image matrix (1024 × 1024 pixels instead of 512 × 512) improves the visibility of tiny brain arteries on CT scans performed with standard 64‐slice scanners. While physical image quality measurements remained unchanged, the larger matrix provided finer digital sampling of blood vessel structures, resulting ...

Chest X‐Ray Imaging Algorithms for Optimising the Visualisation of Medical Lines and Tubes: A Study With Student Radiographers

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Imaging post‐processing algorithms are helpful in improving the visibility of chest lines and tubes on standard chest X‐rays. Examples include the advanced edge enhancement and grey‐scale inversion, and this study evaluates the usefulness of these algorithms for enhancing visual image quality and reader confidence among student radiographers.

Radiation Dose Optimisation Through Artificial Intelligence (AI)‐based Auto‐Thorax Collimation

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
This study evaluated AI‐based Auto‐Thorax Collimation (ATC) for radiation dose optimisation in posteroanterior chest radiography compared with manual collimation. ATC demonstrated tighter lateral collimation and reduced inter‐operator variability while maintaining comparable repeat rates.

Size‐specific dose estimates calculated using patient size measurements from scanned projection radiograph in high‐resolution chest computed tomography

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 72, Issue 1, Page 85-92, March 2025.
This study established that patient's lateral width measurements made from scanned projection radiograph (SPR) is an overestimate compared to those measured from tomographic slices by about 10%. Size‐specific dose estimates (SSDE) calculated using lateral width measured from SPR correlates well with SSDE calculated using water equivalent diameter of ...

Povidone-iodine pleurodesis for congenital chylothorax in an infant: A case report

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports
Introduction: Chylothorax in infants can be classified into five types: congenital, traumatic, postoperative, embolic, and spontaneous, the last one being the most common one. Its etiology is not fully understood, it has a relatively high mortality rate,

European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition/North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition guidelines for treatment of functional constipation in children aged 0–18 years

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Functional constipation (FC) is common in childhood, significantly impacting quality of life. Since the 2014 international guideline, new evidence has been published, and methods on making guidelines have developed. This treatment guideline for FC in children aged 0–18 years is a collaborative effort of the European and North ...

Gut function among children treated for severe acute malnutrition: A cohort study in Uganda

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Impaired gut function in children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is associated with morbidity. We aimed to assess changes in six biomarkers representing different domains of gut function among children with complicated SAM during nutritional rehabilitation, and to identify predictors of these changes.
