The theoretical basis of reservoir pressure in arteries

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The separation of measured arterial pressure into a reservoir pressure and an excess pressure was introduced over 20 years ago as a heuristic hypothesis. Since then it has gained some traction through epidemiological studies that show that various measures of reservoir and excess pressure are independent risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

A new measure to quantify chest wall deformity in scoliosis patients : does rib hump measurement correlate with anterior chest wall deformity post surgery? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The primary aims of scoliosis surgery are to halt the progression of the deformity, and to reduce its severity (cosmesis). Currently, deformity correction is measured in terms of posterior parameters (Cobb angles and rib hump), even though the cosmetic ...

Passive hyperthermia increases blood circulation in specific regions, largely independent of conduit artery mechanics and cardiac performance

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Passive hyperthermia increases net peripheral and systemic blood flow in humans and other animals, yet the underlying haemodynamic forces that selectively accelerate blood movement remain incompletely characterized. Wave intensity analysis offers insight into the respective contributions of the heart and the vascular system to changes in blood

Scaling temporal resolution from mice to humans: Challenges and innovations in preclinical imaging of translational models

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Temporal scaling physiology differs significantly between mice and humans. Mice have higher metabolism, heart and respiratory rate, as well as faster blood flow rates, brain activity and physiological dynamics over time. These differences influence the temporal resolution needed in preclinical imaging of mouse models to ...

Panoramic voltage‐sensitive optical mapping of contracting hearts using cooperative multiview motion tracking with 12 cameras

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstact figure legend A panoramic 3D optical mapping system was developed, enabling imaging of action potential waves across the entire strongly deforming ventricular surface of beating isolated hearts. The system comprises 12 high‐speed cameras and a soccerball‐shaped imaging chamber with 48 light‐emitting diodes (LEDs).

Assessment of Growth in Cardio‐Facio‐Cutaneous Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 200, Issue 11, Page 2443-2453, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Cardio‐facio‐cutaneous (CFC) syndrome is a rare, multiple congenital anomaly disorder in which individuals commonly experience faltering growth; however, systematic analysis of growth parameters in this disorder has not been performed. We recruited 69 participants with CFC through CFC International and collected data on assessing height ...

The impact of developing a pectus center for chest wall deformities.

open access: yes, 2016
PURPOSE: In 2011, we established a dedicated center for patients with chest wall deformities. Here, we evaluate the center\u27s effect on patient volume and management.

“Two‐For‐One”: 4D Cardiac and Pulmonary MR Imaging From a Single Acquisition Using bSTAR

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 5, Page 2213-2227, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To generate 4D (3D+time) images of both the heart and lungs using a single volumetric radial free‐breathing bSSFP dual echo acquisition (bSTAR) with two image reconstructions within a single pipeline deployed inline at 0.55 and 1.5 T.
