Periodontitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A critical appraisal
Abstract In spite of intensive research efforts driving spectacular advances in terms of prevention and treatments, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading health burden, accounting for 32% of all deaths (World Health Organization. “Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).” WHO, February 1, 2017, https://www.who.int/news‐room/fact‐sheets/detail ...

Periodontitis and metabolic diseases (diabetes and obesity): Tackling multimorbidity
Abstract Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are multifactorial, long‐term, chronic conditions that represent a burden to health‐care systems worldwide as they can only be controlled rather than cured; hence, they require long‐term care. Microbiological Safety and Stability of Chewing Tobacco
Eight brands of smokeless tobacco, including 4 scrap, 2 plug, and 2 snuff varieties were examined. Their ability to support microbial growth over a 14-day period at 30°C was determined. The pH of the products ranged from 4.8 to 8.5 and water activity from 0.48 to 0.81.

The Tuta absoluta salivary effector TaCRVP subverts tomato immunity by hijacking host catalase SlCAT2. Through a sophisticated dual mechanism, TaCRVP simultaneously promotes SlCAT2 tetramerization for activation and blocks its SlAdBiL‐mediated degradation for stabilization.

ABSTRACT This study examined the effect of biological fluids (saliva, blood plasma, and urine) on the antioxidant capacity of an aqueous extract derived from Arbutus unedo leaves. The extract displayed a concentration‐dependent reducing activity in the ferric reducing power assay (IC50 = 292 ± 7.54 µg/mL) and phosphomolybdenum assays (IC50 = 461.67 ± 4.

Chewing gum and context-dependent memory: The independent roles of chewing gum and mint flavour [PDF]
Two experiments independently investigated the basis of the chewing-gum induced context-dependent memory effect (Baker et al, 2004). At learning and/or recall participants either chewed flavourless gum (Experiment 1) or received mint-flavoured strips ...

Accurate assessment of systemic drug exposure in humans remains challenging, as conventional approaches rely on intermittent blood sampling and laboratory‐based assays that are invasive and provide limited temporal resolution. Exhaled breath contains volatile and semi‐volatile compounds arising from drug metabolism and downstream biological processes ...

The effect of chewing gum on physiological and self-rated measures of alertness and daytime sleepiness [PDF]
The proposition that chewing gum can improve alertness was investigated via both physiological and self-rated measures. The Pupillographic Sleepiness Test (PST) provided a measure of pupillary unrest (PUI); a physiological index of daytime sleepiness ...
