Chick muscle development

open access: yesThe International Journal of Developmental Biology, 2018
Striated muscle is the most abundant tissue in the body of vertebrates and it forms, together with the skeleton, the locomotory system required both for movement and the creation of the specific body shape of a species. Research on the embryonic development of muscles has a long tradition both in classical embryology and in molecular developmental ...

Macroeconomics after Keynes: a reconsideration of the general theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
This reassessment of J. M. Keynes's The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money results from the author's experience in using Keynes's book as the core of her macroeconomics courses for undergraduates. It is intended to encourage others to bring

Metrology of Complex Refractive Index for Solids in the Terahertz Regime Using Frequency Domain Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Frequency domain spectroscopy allows an experimenter to establish optical properties of solids in a wide frequency band including the technically challenging 10 THz region, and in other bands enables metrological comparison between competing techniques ...

Molecular cancer prevention: Intercepting disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Oncological practice must evolve, from treating established tumours to proactive cancer interception before clinical manifestation. This will require mechanistic insight into tumour initiation, validated biomarkers of early disease development and redesigned clinical trials, enabling cancer interception to become a core pillar of oncology with the ...

Impact of broiler breeder hens’ age and egg storage on egg quality, embryonic development, and hatching traits of FUNAAB-alpha chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science
: This study aimed to determine the impact of the age of breeder hens and egg storage on egg quality, embryonic development, hatching events and chick quality in FUNAAB-alpha chickens.

Serotonergic Neurons in the Chick Brainstem Express Various Serotonin Receptor Subfamily Genes

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is a phylogenetically conserved modulatory neurotransmitter. In mammals, 5-HT plays an important role in the regulation of many mental states and the processing of emotions in the central nervous system. Serotonergic

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Negative Regulation of mTOR Signaling Restricts Cell Proliferation in the Floor Plate

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
The neural tube is composed of a number of neural progenitors and postmitotic neurons distributed in a quantitatively and spatially precise manner.

Retinoic acid influences the timing and scaling of avian wing development

open access: yesCell Reports, 2022
Summary: A fundamental question in biology is how embryonic development is timed between different species. To address this problem, we compared wing development in the quail and the larger chick.

Distinct modes of floor plate induction in the chick embryo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
To begin to reconcile models of floor plate formation in the vertebrate neural tube, we have performed experiments aimed at understanding the development of the early floor plate in the chick embryo. Using real-time analyses of cell behaviour, we provide
