The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

CHILLING RATE OF COOKED RICE AND RISK OF Bacillus cereus GROWTH IN RESTAURANT OPERATION
The emetic syndrome of B. cereus food poisoning is often connected with consumption of rice. When cooked rice is cooled slowly and stored between 10°C to 50°C B. cereus spores germinate and reach numbers high enough to cause illness.

MODELS TO ESTIMATE CHILLING ACCUMULATION UNDER SUBTROPICAL CLIMATIC CONDITIONS IN BRAZIL
Chilling requirement is a characteristic that limits temperate fruit crops cultivation under subtropical climate. Several mathematic models, differing on the relative value of chilling units have been developed, in order to estimate the chilling ...

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

A Study of Chilling Factors on Taxa of Red Maple (Acer Rubrum L. and Acer X Freemanii E. Murray) [PDF]
The objectives of this research were to (1) determine the response on budbreak of red maples to natural (ambient) chilling versus constant (forced) chilling; (2) determine the response on budbreak of red maples of forced chilling of red maple at various ...

POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems

Mechanically Programmable DNA Hydrogel Microparticles for 3D Cellular Systems
DNA hydrogel microparticles are designed to exhibit controllable viscoelasticity and stiffness across three orders of magnitude from 30Pa$30 \,\mathrm{Pa}$ to 6.5kPa$6.5 \,\mathrm{kPa}$. They are uptaken into fibroblast spheroids where they are actively remodeled by cellular forces depending on their mechanical properties.
