Social media highlights the overlooked impact of cats on arthropods

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 2, Page 460-465, March 2026.
The impact of domestic cats on vertebrate biodiversity is unequivocal; however, we still know little about their effects on arthropods. By analysing over 17,000 photos and videos from social media platforms (iStock and TikTok), we documented 550 predation events of cats on arthropods.

Colonization of reclaimed post-mining habitats by Myriapoda (Diplopoda, Chilopoda) in southwestern Siberia, Russia

open access: yesActa Biologica Sibirica
Post-mining landscapes undergo profound ecological transformations, yet the recovery of soil fauna remains poorly understood. This study examines the colonization patterns of myriapods (Diplopoda and Chilopoda) on reclaimed coal mining dumps in ...

Centipede (Chilopoda) richness and diversity in the Bug River valley (Eastern Poland)

open access: yesZooKeys, 2015
The main aim of the survey was to describe the diversity and richness of Chilopoda in the selected area of the Bug River valley. The study sites were located in two regions differing in the shape of the valley, the presence of thermophilous habitats and ...

Catalogue of Chilean centipedes (Myriapoda, Chilopoda)

open access: yesSoil Organisms, 2018
A review of all literature, published between 1847 and 2016, provides a comprehensive inventory of research on Chilean Chilopoda. A total of 4 orders, 10 families, 28 genera and 70 species were recorded, highlighting the diversity of Chilopoda species in

Mitigating light pollution impacts on arthropods based on light‐emitting diode properties

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Light pollution from artificial light at night (ALAN) is a significant environmental problem with far‐reaching consequences for ecological systems. Recent innovations in light‐emitting diode (LED) technology may offer sustainable outdoor lighting solutions, but scientific evidence is lacking. We investigated the effects of various LED lighting

Plant functional traits affect invertebrate predator diversity via bottom‐up effects in a deadwood‐based food web

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 128-139, January 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Bottom‐up effects play a critical role in shaping community structure and trophic interactions within detritus‐based food webs. Coarse deadwood supports high biodiversity and contributes to detrital food webs during its decomposition process.

Heat but Not Cold Tolerance Is Phylogenetically Constrained in Greenlandic Terrestrial Arthropods Under Future Global Warming

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 1, January 2026.
In this study we describe the temperature limits for almost 8% of the Greenlandic arthropod fauna (insects and spiders). By combining this with a DNA analysis and a projection of future climates inhabited by these species we reveal that upwards of 25% of the investigated species risk exposure to stressful temperatures by the end of the century and that
