A common terminology for the external anatomy of centipedes (Chilopoda)

open access: yesZooKeys, 2010
A common terminology for the external morphological characters of centipedes (Chilopoda) is proposed. Terms are selected from the alternatives used in the English literature, preferring those most frequently used or those that have been introduced ...

Predation of bat (Molossus molossus: Molossidae) by the centipede Scolopendra viridicornis (Scolopendridae) in Southern Amazonia [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2015
Centipedes are opportunistic carnivore predators, and large species can feed on a wide variety of vertebrates, including bats. The aim of this study was to report the third record of bat predation by centipedes worldwide, the first record in the Amazon ...

Molecular insights of Circadian Rhythm in Chilopoda [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stress Physiology & Biochemistry
The control of the sleep-wake cycle as well as several physiological and behavioral processes in living things depends on circadian rhythms. Circadian rhythms are regulated by internal biological clocks that coordinate with environmental stimuli like ...

Arthropod Phylogenetics in Light of Three Novel Millipede (Myriapoda: Diplopoda) Mitochondrial Genomes with Comments on the Appropriateness of Mitochondrial Genome Sequence Data for Inferring Deep Level Relationships [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background Arthropods are the most diverse group of eukaryotic organisms, but their phylogenetic relationships are poorly understood. Herein, we describe three mitochondrial genomes representing orders of millipedes for which complete genomes had not ...

Comparison of Short Generalist and Specific Markers to Assess the Diversity of Arthropods Using eDNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 6, November–December 2025.
By analyzing > 1200 eDNA samples with different markers amplifying arthropods, we show that generalist and specific markers produce correlated pictures of community variation; still specific markers provide a more accurate measure of biodiversity and of its response to environmental stressors.

Riparian Vegetation and Arthropod Responses to Dam Removal and Habitat Restoration Along the Kalamazoo River, Michigan, USA

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 41, Issue 9, Page 2017-2031, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Riparian ecosystems harbor diverse biota and provide numerous services to rivers including mitigating sediment run‐off, regulating temperature, and contributing food‐web subsidies. Dams are a major threat to riparian communities, but dam removal and riparian restoration efforts have the potential to restore these communities and the services ...
